Journal Journal: DDR: Xbox, PS2, ??? 7

So I am about 100 years behind the times, but if I wanted to get a Dance Dance Revolution kit for home use (maybe on craigslist, I'm cheap) should I get it for Xbox, PS2, or what?

Of course this is what I really want. But the neighbors might object.

Now Congress wants to give people a gas tax rebate, or even worse, suspend collection of the gas tax?! On the contrary, now is the time to raise gas taxes because oil company profits are so high they will be more likely to be absorbed rather than passed on to the consumer - and higher taxes will provide better incentives to save fuel and reduce our dependence on petrostates like Saudi Arabia

If you're a baseball fan, ignore George Whinebrenner and watch this tournament. All four games yesterday were riveting, including Cuba's very impressive win over Venezuela (where was the Castro-Chavez bet? Oil or sugar?) and the USA's squeaker past Japan on A-Rod's ninth inning base hit (and a controversial call). And world home run leade

Journal Journal: Suspend Bonds

I'm a SF Giants season ticket holder, so I certainly don't feel happy about this, but baseball has got to suspend Barry Bonds without pay this year. (Assuming an internal investigation confirms the recent SI article and book.)

It can't be good for the Giants' baseball plans this year, but on the bright side, they'll get a bunch of payroll back to spend on a non-steroid user or two.

New AT&T Acquires BellSouth 406

spune writes "Only months after SBC's acquisition of AT&T last November, the newly rechristened telecom has announced that it plans to buy fellow Baby Bell BellSouth Inc, of Atlanta, Georgia for $67 billion. This action by AT&T will consolidate more than half of the original Bell System into a single entity, leaving only Verizon and Qwest as remaining Bell family competitors. Analysts predict this deal will be approved by the FCC with only minor restrictions on the new company, which will serve residences and businesses from California to Florida."

Space Jackets Down to Earth 87

Roland Piquepaille writes "Several technologies used to design the space suits protecting astronauts are now being adapted to protect workers facing extremely hot and dangerous conditions. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), these 'space-cooled' jackets are using three different technologies: special 3D-textile structure, cooling apparatus derived from astronauts' suits, and a special water-binding polymer acting as a coating. Even if these protective clothes are primarily intended for firefighters or steel workers, several applications are possible, such as in sportswear or in cars as parts of air conditioning systems. Read more for additional details and pictures."

Why we are losing the war on terror.

Money quote: "So catastrophic was Bush's decision to shift his attention and resources to Iraq, when bin Laden was panting at Tora Bora, that one is tempted to rank it with Adolf Hitler's decision to invade the Soviet Union in June 1941, at a time when Great Britain was prostrate and America was still out of the war (a decision that almost certainly cost Hitler the war then and there)."

University Bans wi-fi as Health Concern 693

BaltikaTroika writes "A Canadian university has banned wi-fi, since the university President sees a possible link between electric and magnetic fields and brain tumors. According to the head of the university, "the jury's out on this one, I'm not going to put in place what is potential chronic exposure for our students." Is anybody outside of this university's administration concerned about this?"

Silverstone ST30NF 300W Silent PSU reviewed 143

VL writes "Silence is golden as they say, but in Silverstone's case, it's, uh, silver. Will this silent PSU bring it, or will enthusiasts continue to be plagued with noisy PSUs? 'Initially I had some reservations of how a 300W PSU would handle our test system in real-world testing. Needless to say the Silverstone ST30NF 300W PSU got the job done efficiently and quietly, or should I say silently. It doesn't come cheap, ringing in at close to $150, but that's the price you pay for a high quality PSU that does not make any noise at all.'"
