Systemd is a closed thing (unless you want to recompile to customize) that does way too much and that is one of its primary problems. Only morons and novices want a tool to do "more". SysV init, on the other hand, is primarily based on scripts, which means all you need even for deep customization is a text editor.

If you cannot see the the problem that systemd has, then you really are completely clueless. Go to windows, there you cannot customize anything with ease and it does everything for you (badly).

This merely enables the NSA and other bad actors to not even have to break into your computer anymore.

Then you have no place in the *nix space, really. Some level of comfort with scripts is mandatory. There is nothing "bonkers" about good system design, but there are numerous people that do not get it.

Stop trying to sabotage the discussion. It is really quite obvious what you are trying to do.

Obliviously, I was. However this kind of misdirection is typical in systemd proponents. They do not want an honest discussion because they have no chance of winning that. And they know it.

I don't agree on the commandline example. Having it in a library that then everybody must use has its own disadvantages. I do agree on the quality level of systemd. Replacing something that works reasonably well with something utterly broken for some slight advantages in some specific situations is utter insanity.

That is just the point. If you write clean *nix-software, it will run in mist *nix systems.

a) Stop regurgitating the propaganda. Systemd is a Poettering/Sivers project.
b) So you think the more developers, the better? Have you any clue about software engineering? Apparently not.
c) The boot system is not the "core" of a distro. That role belongs to the kernel. But thanks for confirming what I suspect the systemd team wants.
d) There is no need to do much work on the alternatives, as they work well, unlike systemd.
f) You are rather obviously full of shit.

The problem is that you have two failure modes here:

1. Waiting for BIND to actually go down is intentional, even if it takes forever
2. You want to kill -9 it even if it has not shut down cleanly

You get to decide. With traditional SYSV-init, it is pretty easy to do. With systemd, they either anticipated it or you are screwed. But _you_ have to make that choice and there will be a reason for the default behavior. Of you think it is not good, submit a bug report. Wishing for magical computers that somehow know what you want is not the answer, though often practiced.
