Comment Re:Evolution in action! (Score 1) 275

Actually, evolution works through life, not death. The best adaptations for the given environment get to reproduce and produce young. It is entirely possible that in low gravity, something in our reproductive systems doesn't work as we'd expect and it becomes much more difficult to produce children -- in which case, the natural selection would be through which mutations allow children to be conceived and raised rather than through death.

I think you may have a fundamental misunderstanding of evolution if you believe it works only through death. Evolution is about generations (many, many generations), not about a single lifetime. Evolution isn't about the death of the mutations that don't work, it's about the reproduction of the mutations that DO work. The examples you gave about pilgrims has nothing to do with evolution.

Thanks for being the only person on this entire thread to say something useful. Diversity isn't about fairness to genders or races, it's about getting the best representation so that you get input from places you might not have looked otherwise. It's not a question of talent, it's a question of perspective. As evidenced by the rest of the comments, people suck at getting perspective in today's society.

Seriously? This is literally trading tax dollars for campaign dollars. What the hell kind of reform is this? Even with the proposed $50 limit on the credit it's a bad idea -- and what good is $50 going to do, anyway?

I think what you're missing here is that we are not at the *end* of human evolution, but instead we are somewhere in the middle. Perhaps that's why the human face is better than some other creatures for taking a punch, but not as good as it could be. Also keep in mind that there are many other factors that would go into the evolution of the human face, and what we look like right now is a result of all of those to varying degrees.
