Comment Xylitol to the rescue? (Score 4, Interesting) 630

Nice idea. Now instead of putting in teeth-rotting sugar or another weird tasting artificial sweetener, try Xylitol. Not only is it good for the teeth and health (less than 50% calories of sugar), but unlike most or all of the alternative sweeteners, it also TASTES like real sugar. I bought some for myself to put on cereal, and also unlike other sweeteners, it doesn't have that bitter aftertaste.

I bought this one from the UK, but for the US, this one looks good.

Only a small percentage of people find trouble with it (it can have a laxative affect if you take too much for the first few days). Still 4.8/5 from 106 reviews (no 1 or 2 star) is mightily impressive if you ask me.

I tend to think people who are against certain things often don't know why they are. For instance, the antivaxers may subconsciously think that we shouldn't have to do anything as evolution will sort it out eventually (causing lots of short term pain, but long term, I'd guess we'd save time/money not having to vaccinate everyone in that hypothetical future).

Similarly, people who are racist may simply not like the look of the other race from an aesthetic point of view, but because that's so hard to prove, they fool themselves and/or others into thinking the other race is 'inferior' due to other factors such as intelligence, wealth, crime rates etc. which are much easier factors to quantify and compare, (though still *really* tricky to get right in truth).

Oh I've had a repsonse from Stackoverflow asking:

Does it do nothing on a machine with two monitors or does it throw an error? Does it only change a single screen? What is the user experience?

From one of your earlier posts, I presume it just does nothing with the second screen (no error message or anything right?)

Thanks. I've asked on Stackoverflow, so maybe someone will reply. Hey, I'll even chuck in a bounty if no one replies.

If someone replies, I'll give you the honour of testing to see if it works! ;) I presume you've tried and it won't currently work.

Yes I had a C64 too. I remember with the Amiga 500 thinking 640*512 was a really high res, and 1280*1024 was ridiculously large. Now it's painfully blocky. Mind, most screens are bigger these days, so that can bias one a bit I guess ;)
