Comment Re:I prefer to be in charge of my vehicle's brakin (Score 1) 282

Yeah, and "My friend would have died if he was wearing his seatbelt - I'm never wearing mine!" This belief that this data doesn't *already* exist and that automation in part or whole is less safe than drivers is hogwash.

If this is your opinion, then you haven't thought about this long enough. Have you, yourself, actually examined the data to see if it really says what they are telling you that it said? Do you understand the nuances of the numbers (lives saved seems like an exaggeration type number since that is not strictly quantifiable)?

It seems like you received a few pieces of information and settled on the Truth of the matter. Enjoy reaping what you are sowing.

I've had these in my cars for a decade, and I've never had the auto-brake trigger

While 99.99999% of Americans lives where it never rains or snows, I do happen to have lots of experience driving in limited traction conditions. Having a braking force applied suddenly outside of my control is pure nightmare fuel in limited traction situations. My revulsion on this concept is very extreme. Yeah, I fully understand that many people would benefit from this. It might kill me.

Glad I have both of my "forever cars". I don't want any of this in my vehicles.

Someone who thinks like me! Two reliable cars so one can be receiving service without impacting my day to day life very much. I spent less buying both cars than most people spend on buying one. At 20+ years old, it is getting difficult to find parts for them, for example, I needed someone to fabricate a brake line for me since the part is nowhere in existence in any warehouses despite being listed as being available.

In other news I've never been in an accident in my car so why should any of my passengers need a seatbelt. The data is clear, it won't make them any safer.

When you can make automatic braking as safe as a seatbelt, you are welcome to to sell such items. Mandating that the feature be installed when it is as buggy and unreliable is insanity. I "eagerly" look forward to finding all the ways that humans find to abuse this system. The picture of massive traffic incidents where people are stuck for hours or days is very clear to me.

If people could not speak truth to power anonymously, they might not do so at all.

Power operates much more efficiently without a constant barrage of side shots from the peanut gallery.

Or in other words, Power doesn't need to hear Truth. Power is sufficient unto itself.

(yes, yes, we all know that without Truth, Power won't last long, but to those in the throes of power addiction, Truth is merely an inconvenience.)

Do Kennedys ever face consequences?

Of course they do, just not to the laws that you and I face consequences with. Ever heard of a Punk Rock band called The Dead Kennedys? Trust me, the Kennedy's face consequences, just not like you or I do. As a matter of fact, the Kennedys are no longer a serious force in American politics. Within a few generations, the Kennedys will only be a historical footnote. Well done Bush family, you finally got 'em where you wanted them.

Without getting deep into the political weeds here, can anyone explain how an identified militia is automatically assumed as âoeextremistsâ in America?

If they were really trying to do what they were setting out to do, then they would join the police or the military. These groups ALL have their own sets of rules which do not strictly follow the laws in the area in which they reside.

Is it 100% scientifically guaranteed that they are extremists? LOL, no. But if I were a betting man, I would bet that they are all extremists. All.

But then who defends against a government that has been taken over by hostile ideologies? The answer from authority is that you can't, so by definition, all militias are 'extremist' as they will oppose a sitting government.

The reality is that violent crime is falling, has been falling for three decades, and there is no expectation that trend is likely to change any time soon.

I guess it depends on your definition of 'soon'. A hundred million starving people are going to fuck shit up 'soon' at the rate things are going. People are real, not mere concepts that go away when you stop thinking about them. Something needs to be done about those people who are no longer needed. The Germans had the fantastic idea of gassing and cremating them. America currently doesn't do gassing, as that was politically untenable, but nobody cares if you starve or freeze to death when you are part of the unwanted class. We still cremate them though... go ask your local county officials about how many bodies they are forced to cremate each month. You could ask your state for such totals, but you won't get an honest answer there.

But the argument he invokes about a global conspiracy is insane. The guy is either talking in incredible bad faith, or ripe for the padded room.

Weird that ALL Western economies would be going terribly for the worker all at the same time isn't it? Surely there should be some variability... but there isn't. All economies are stressed to the max right now.

How does one get such lockstep behaviour without an external force being applied regularly and intelligently?

It is completely rational to suspect conspiracies because there actually ARE conspiracies. Not all conspiratorial parties are working in concert with each other. Many conspiracies have happy coincidences with each other, but most are working against each other.

So why talk about padded rooms when discussing conspiracies? Are you incapable of noting patterns? It is what the human brain is based upon.
