Comment Re:what mushrooms? (Score 1) 421

Just check the weather in St.Petersburg, Russia. It is still too cold there for any mushrooms to grow. So much for journalist's integrity.

Dude, journalists have been harrassing him for years. It's weird that you hadn't heard of the media siege on him, but at least RTFA.

From TFA: "I'll note: this has nothing to do with dark matter. As it happens, 90% of the matter in the Universe is in a form that emits no light, but affects other matter through gravity. We know it exists, and you can find out why here. We know it exists locally, in nearby galaxies and clusters of galaxies, too. This new result doesn't affect that, since the now un-hidden galaxies are very far away, like many billions of light years away. They can't possibly affect nearby galaxies, so they don't account for dark matter."

Submission + - Symbian Announces New Symbian 3 Smartphone OS

adeelarshad82 writes: The Symbian Foundation announced the first fully open-source release of their popular smartphone OS today, the new Symbian 3. Symbian is the world's most popular smartphone OS. It's extremely common on phones in Europe and Asia, though it isn't used much in the U.S. Last week, Symbian announced that the company had made its existing Symbian OS platform open-source and promised that Symbian devices would come to US carriers in 2010. The new OS has a range of improvements from previous iterations.

Submission + - Quantum Material 'Could Replace All Switches' (eweekeurope.co.uk)

scurtis writes: Peratech hit the headlines yesterday with the news of a deal to put its pressure-sensitive quantum material into phone touchscreens and navigation keys. However, this could be just the start of a revolution, according to CEO of Peratech Philip Taysom, who believes that all switches could one day be replaced with an ultra-thin quantum material which adds pressure sensitivity. Touchscreens currently drain power gently all the time, but a QTC border could be used as an on-off switch for them, saving power and extending battery life, claims Taysom.

By "Nokia", do you mean Maemo or Symbian? As the GP poster said, Mozilla have no plans to support Symbian, which Opera does, and Opera does not have a Maemo version. So what do you mean by "same targets"?

Comment Re:The problem with approaching Carnot efficiency. (Score 1) 121

Carnot efficiency is defined by the efficiency of a reversible heat engine operating between the given temperatures;

"Heat engine" != direct thermoelectric conversion (whether via quantum dots or just plain ol' Peltier junctions).

The Carnot limit simply doesn't apply to direct conversion, and AFAIK, no theoretical limit to near-100% efficiency (minus entropy) exists for the latter.
