Comment About time (Score 2) 87

I've been taking aspirin after a couple of strokes about 10 years ago. In the last 3 years, compounded with a deviated septum, I've been having increasingly critical nose bleeds. Impacts my life in every way possible. After 3 ENTs told me, "You're SOL. Can't do anything for you", I stopped the thinners 3 months ago. No more bleeds. I can work out again. I can walk on the street without my nose exploding. Eat in a restaurant. Have a beer with a friend in public. I can't tell you what a difference it makes. My doctor? She dismissed me as a patient for not following her treatment recommendations.

You can call yourself the Right Hand of All the Forgotten Gods for all I care. You ceased being relevant after all the shit you've pulled finally came to light publicly. Now you're just a cautionary tale, and a distraction. In fact, I regret the time I wasted writing this.

Oh well... 90 seconds I'll never get back. And never miss.

Submission + - Japan's Fugaku is the world's fastest supercomputer (theguardian.com)

AmiMoJo writes: A Japanese supercomputer that has been named the world’s fastest is using its extraordinary capacity to identify potential treatments for the coronavirus. Japan this week regained the top spot for the first time since 2011, ending years of US and Chinese dominance on the TOP500 site, which tracks the evolution of computer processing power. Its Fugaku supercomputer can perform more than 415 quadrillion computations a second, 2.8 times faster than the Summit system developed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the US, which held the title when the twice-yearly rankings were last published in November.

It has already run simulations on how respiratory droplets spread in partitioned office spaces and on packed trains when the carriage windows are open.

Trump Says He Takes Hydroxychloroquine To Prevent Coronavirus Infection Even Though It's An Unproven Treatment (cnbc.com) 470

hcs_$reboot writes: President Donald Trump said Monday that he has been taking anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine for over a week to prevent coronavirus infection even though it is not yet a proven treatment. Hydroxychloroquine, which is available as a generic drug and is also produced under the brand name Plaquenil by French drugmaker Sanofi, can have serious side effects, including muscle weakness and heart arrhythmia. A small study in Brazil was halted for safety reasons after coronavirus patients taking chloroquine, which hydroxychloroquine is derived from, developed arrhythmia, including some who died. Even Fox News agrees that this drug is harmful, adds hcs_$reboot. "I cannot stress this enough, this will kill you," Fox News host Neil Cavuto said.

Trump said Monday he asked his White House physician about the drug. "I asked him, 'What do you think?' He said, 'Well, if you'd like it.' I said, 'Yeah, I'd like it. I'd like to take it.'" Trump said Monday that if the drug wasn't good he'd "tell you." He said he's gotten "a lot of tremendously positive news on the hydroxy, and I say hey -- you know the expression I've used, John? What do you have to lose?"

"I'm not gonna get hurt by it. It's been around for 40 years," he said. "For malaria, for lupus, for other things. I take it. Front-line workers take it. A lot of doctors take it -- excuse me, a lot of doctors take it. I take it."

Come on. I knew before I tried it that the results would be abysmal. Any moron can do better with a mouse and Gimp. Why would you bother posting such a story, with such ambivalent, destructive results to the processing of the image? I'm sure there are idiots out there that would use it. Darwinism wins again.
