Comment Who gets a refund? They already have a list. (Score 3, Informative) 48

Summary is unlcear on who gets a part of the settlement- and implies it's anyone who used TurboTax.

From official website:

The settlement applies to certain consumers who paid Intuit to file their federal tax returns through TurboTax for tax years 2016, 2017, and 2018 but were eligible to file for free through the IRS Free File Program. Consumers eligible for a payment will be notified by email by the settlement fund administrator. *These consumers will receive a payment automatically, without needing to file a claim.* Payments will be made by check, mailed throughout May 2023.

ChatGPT came out in December. We're about 4 months out now, and it's changed how a lot of people work - myself included.

By the time the government starts its study, the landscape will have totally changed (again).
Hard telling what tools will be in out hand if/when the government study ever completes.

Robotics is a strange mix of hardware and software.

We've had the hardware for ages. A good robot arm could do most factory tasks.
The problem is the software to handle small, awkward, inconsistent environments and parts.

Take self driving cars for example - cars & sensors have been around for a long, long time. The current revolution is the software to use that hardware on open roads.

What were seeing is rapid advances in software to catch up to where the hardware has been for years.
