Are You An Arson Supporter?

Comments Filter:
  • i bet you're an arson-supporter also. you are pro-life. therefore you're the same as those clinic bombers.
    • Might want to review that logic a bit.

Most organizations that are pro-life will denounce anyone who does perform violence against abortion clinics. They will shun most anyone who advocates violence.

Instead we have here PETA supporting this fellow.

If I were to find out that any organization I give money to were working outside of what I thought was moral, I would stop giving to them until the point where they stop doing what I thought was not moral. If you give to PETA, can you say the same?
      • not everyone is so emphatic in their denouncments.
Must Mr. Reagan Tolerate Abortion Clinic Violence? [drhern.com]
        • Sorry, but how does Reagan not speaking out specifically translate to an endorsement of anti-abortion activists? So, if a president has dinner with someone with a speeding ticket, is that a tactic endorsement of speeding by the administration? Most mainstream pro-life organizations condemn, not condone violence. Anything other than that is conjecture taken on faith by the writer of the article.

Instead here we have an organization that has taken in and supported someone who has been convicted of arson, an

Near as I can tell, the same way that Pope Pius XII not speaking out against the Nazis while issueing fake death and baptism certificates for 800,000 Jews means that the Catholic Church co-operated with the Holocaust. Or a PETA member giving money yet being completely unaware of a firebombing incident is "supporting arson".

  • My own ad (a.k.a., a non-serious counter-point)...

Scene: Heli-shot of a Washington state forest, day

"Pristine, untouched forest. Homes for countless species of plant and animal."
Scene: Firemen with raging blow torches
"But the Federal government give these people Millions of dollars per year, under a program they call, Controlled Burning."
Scene: Charred ground, with unrecognizable furry dead thing in the shot.
"Even in light of this program, your president is proud of the work these people do."
    Scene:

    • Are you being sarcastic, or are you an idiot? I hope you're being sarcastic, but I've heard such idiocy before and they were serious...

Controlled burning is necessary, lest we have even _more_ uncontrolled fires causing even more amounts of unnecessary pollution and 'unrecognizable furry dead things'.
  • I'm no fan of PETA, but, like campaign ads, are they really telling the whole truth there?
    • Did the prez of PETA really heap praise on Mr. Arson, after and knowing what Mr. Arson had done?
    • Did he really receive $70K? People don't just give other people 70 grand. Was it payment for work/services? Who in the org gave it to him, and was it authorized, and is that person still in the org?

For some reason Mr. Arson's name wasn't disclosed (although there was evidently no trepidation in revealing his facial identi

    • Not my place to answer but...
      His name is Rodney Coronado.

Did the prez of PETA... I can't find anything to substantiate this, besides the fact that it's been repeated across multiple sites (which I put little stock in).

Did he really receive $70K... I found that here [animalscam.com] and here [animalscam.com].

    • I found this [nfss.org], which claims to be a transcript for a John Stossel commentary on 20/20 (ABC news magazine) - and in that the quote appears. However the original source (link into abc.com) is long since stale. The closest I can find on main-stream about this (very old) statement is this story [go.com], but it doesn't include the quote.
      • Your input is always welcome, AZ.

I'm a skeptical person by nature, and know how similarly-aligned political groups can take a "story" and all run with it -- I remember the "more women are beaten on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year" myth that was popular amongst various feminist groups, until it was publicly debunked.

All reports on this issue are on detractor web sites, and that transcript may or may not be such, I have no way of knowing for sure since the original source no longer makes it a

    • Of course it's not telling the truth. It's an agenda-pushing sound bite meant to get people like Mr. Metzler here all worked up over some problem that may or may not exist.

Based on the information provided in that ad, there's absolutely no reason to think that PETA has done anything bad or wrong here, but the ad isn't exactly aimed at the top of the IQ chart, now is it? No, it's aimed at non-critical thinkers who are more likely to jump to knee-jerk conclusions. Brent.
    • The guy's name is Rodney Coronado. The actual amount given was $70,400.

The purpose of the gift was for Rodney Coronado's ultimately unsuccessful defense in his arson case.

There's more info about him here [activistcash.com], here [animalrights.net], here [california...ndfood.com], here [animalrights.net], here [animalrights.net] here [typepad.com], and here [consumerfreedom.com]
