Journal smittyoneeach's Journal: Bazillionth isolated, unconnect incicent of Democrat playing race card 17

We've got people on here who swear such never happens, I know. So this is probably just a freakish, unique occurrence, despite our having elected this über-light bringer dude as POTUS. Twice:

A Mississippi Democratic Congressman says Clarence Thomas is an "Uncle Tom," Mitch McConnell is a "racist," and that Republicans are only anti-big government and anti-Obamacare because President Obama is black. Rep. Bennie Thompson made the comments over the weekend while appearing on a New Nation of Islam radio program.

  • You now have given exactly one example of an elected democrat calling someone's criticism of Obama racist. Granted, the congressman actually said that the Health Insurance Industry Bailout Act of 2010 was opposed by people who were racist - and opposing the actions of that bill are not entirely analogous to opposing Obama - but I'm feeling generous so I'll give it to you.

Nonetheless, you have had a very long time to come up with examples, and this is the first one you have provided on slashdot that is an

      • Your argument has been that it happens all the time. You have utterly failed to support that argument. You can pretend that you can somehow support an argument without providing any evidence, but that would just be silly.

          • Allow me to get you up to speed on Smitty's allegations here, since you may be new to the discussion.

Smitty previously alleged that the standard response of Democratic politicians - ie, those currently serving in elected positions - anytime Obama is criticized over anything is to call the critic a racist.

Most of the examples you linked to were not politicians at all (ie, Hank Aaron, Bill Cosby). Others linked to partisan websites that only gave wordbites of quotes without enough context to know what th
            • This example is Smitty's FIRST example of an actual elected democrat calling someone criticizing Obama a racist.

As though the behavior pattern isn't commonplace, and only became instantiated upon my placing a URL on Slashdot.
In addition to racism as a Democrat Party and mainstream media (but I repeat myself) trope, I also need not explain to anyone on Slashdot that you're a total blowhard.

              • So I asked you to actually support the argument hat you keep repeating as gospel, and you respond with a petty insult. If you don't want to have a conversation why do you even post a JE? You could post this on your own blog instead and then you wouldn't have to worry about people responding to you with facts or questions.
            • I suppose Not elected yet [thedailybeast.com] doesn't count either in your twisted, race baiting mind?

And as that article shows, this is a tradition that goes back a long time before Obama.

Of course, three quarters of the way down that article we find:

Just this year, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee accused Newt Gingrich of using racist “code words” in his public remarks during the presidential campaign. In other words, Newt didn’t say anything blatantly racist, but I am going to attack him fo

              • d_r would vote for George Wallace if he felt the opposition would take away his job. And he is enamored in a very tiny part of democratic history that existed only during the Kennedy years, and even then, mostly as a facade of marketing.

Face facts, Obama is the race card, and it was very well played. The institution successfully fends off another attack and stands tall as ever.

1968 is when the republicans became democrats and employed their same "strategies". That's what Johnson meant when he said, "There g

I don't think this oversimplification really captures any useful history. But it does make you sound knowledgable, I suppose.

                  • oversimplification

I always did marvel at these kinds of cop outs. It's got that that sweet stench of arrogance.

                    • Oh, as though either party's members woke up one morning and said "Hey, let's swap!"
                    • Swingers baby... They do that every morning. Then they have a cigarette. You don't take all that bickering amongst them seriously, do you?

                    • You've got to remember the priorities of politicians:
                      1. Get Elected
                      2. Get re-elected
                      3. Minimize workload for the politicians
                      4. Get a raise for being a politician
                      5. Pass legislation in return for campaign contributions
                      6. Goto 1.

                    • Politicians are employees, who happen to think far too highly of themselves. They are literally used car salesmen, and are just as disposable if they don't "play along". The party is the dealership whose job is to move their patrons' inventory, which at this stage of the game is very worn out and should be sent to the crusher.
