I'm just not seeing how the way you name a war in one country has any bearing on the justification of war in a whole other country.

Who said they did? Neither was any more justifiable than the other. It is a single war (this time chasing ghosts) on two fronts. Kinda like the Germany/Japan thing, but more ethereal the rationale.
