I just read Obamas's speech to the school kids. I am a suspicious guy, that should be evident.
I see nothing whatsoever except a nice speech to school kids, without a single negative comment I can see. I'll give him props on this one. Nothing wrong in encouraging kids to not give up on themselves, or society around them. Sort of an extension of JFK's "ask not..." quote. Extreme anti-nationalists might not like it, but..that ain't me either. I think you can be both a rational nationalist and NOT be a predatory jingoist. I like to think I am at least.
I know some might say it is a thinly disguised sop to an ongoing effort at "the cult of the personality"....that might be the only negative aspect, but even then, that would be a stretch.

IIRC, George H. W. Bush (the Elder), gave a speech to school children of the nation and people didn't have kittens about it.
President Obama isn't Svengali. If people believe he can "indoctrinate" kids to become lifelong liberals with 15-minutes of televised oratory, they under-estimate the density of the average schoolchild's brain -- and over-estimate their attention span.

It helps to know how Liberals think -- this is not about winning the whole shebang in 15 minutes flat, it's about trying and seeing how far the people will let you get, backing down somewhat for the time being to try again later and/or in different forms. But the overall goal is the gradual nudging us of where they want us to be/what they want us to accept, so gradual that we don't really notice.

If you had that little influence on your kids to where you're worried about their growing up to become the polar opposite of what you teach, then they (and you) have bigger problems.
Yes, I'm aware that much of today's "liberal movement" is 60s flower children who've grown up, gotten money, learned how the game was played and have deluded themselves into believing the essence of Marxism is morally correct, it was just implemented poorly back in the day.

Interesting case of psychological projection, accusing 'the other' of doing what those you empathize with demonstrably do. The right has a game plan to shift the center of the debate to the right, and they have been playing that game plan for thirty years. Are pretty profound given the serious nature of the US having to import so much stuff now. The people with the real stuff are going to want *real stuff* back in return, and the easiest one to see would be the selling off or privatization of even more of the national public infrastructure, highways and roads, water works, etc. More large scale looting.
We have a slim potential to reinvigorate manufacturing in the US..but I ain't seeing it happen anytime soon, most everyone wants an office job or nothing now.

I live in a rural area of the old deep south, and have yet to hear that applied to him even one time, anywhere. I've heard him referred to as a "commie", but nuthin else really. It must happen of course but I haven't heard it. Most folks don't seem to care one way or the other about his race, that part isn't important at all, there's basically just a general distrust of the federal government, and it doesn't seem to matter who is in charge or not.
Like most other areas, either the traditional choice A or B
