Any good restaurant/bar suggestions? (Score:2)
Another possibility, if people don't mind driving to Bradenton, is my house. We have a party-friendly yard (3 decks + patio) that can hold around 30 people, and if someone wants to DJ we have outdoor electricity available, not to mention 3 BBQ grills for BYO(whatever) cooking...

(Can't speak for the rest of the world, but it seems that around here, we *do* get women at social-type LUG/Linux events... had quite a few at the last Debian fling a few weeks ago in St. Pete, which ended up mostly moving to a pool hall from the Brit-type bar restaurant where the evening started.)

If we're worried at all about hosting a larger event, we could have it at the Green Iguana near Veteran's AMC. MS holds their pub club events there and while I've only been there once, it had live music and a large tiki bar.

In Tampa of course there are any number of topless bars to choose from. And won't those make for prize-winning party pictures?
Sunday night is pretty tame in Ybor, so maybe that bar on the second floor of Centro, between 7th and 8th? Or New World Brewe

On venues, I'm not too particular. I tend towards the smaller places as well. I like Limey's, but some of the (lesbian) staff has repaid my attempt at being polite and friendly with clear contempt for my existence. Not that I have anything against lesbians, just the ones that are rude to me while I'm paying them. And I'm not sure if the age limit is 21 there or not. The beer

That wouldn't be bad, since traffic is going to be a bitch after work for most people. It's not too bad where it's been proposed around the Carrollwood area, but that will be difficult for people who aren't already within about 10 miles. All the roads to the South get a bit slow, and Northbound traffic is tough. People heading Southbound (probably the minority) will have it pretty easy.

Note that on a Sunday evening, we will not be dealing with work traffic, so that's not a concern.
I'll call around to some of the other places suggested and see what their reservations policies are for groups of 10 - 20.
S. Tampa or N. St. Pete near 275 are probably the most convenient for the most people, so I think we should look hardest in that area.

Personally I'm good with almost anywhere in Tampa. I live in Valrico (Brandon), and work in Carrollwood (Tampa), so I'm used to the drive.

Shame I won't be able to make it - we're expecting a baby on the 18th, and I don't think my wife would be keen with me heading out to a slashdot party.
Are their regular events like this? I know the Charlotte LUG used to do some cool get-togethers, and it would be nice to meet some fellow local geekers.

I've never had anything bad there (and I go there almost once a week) but the burgers are especially good. More often I have a sandwich, of which there is a tasty variety.
For the beer lovers, on tap they currently have Guinness, Harp, and Blue Moon. Blue Moon replaced Anchor Steam a few months back. =^/ But again, full bar and the usual cast of bottled beers.
Robin, let me know if you need any help setting up. I'm only five or ten minutes from there.

It might be about 40 minutes (figuring in traffic) if you take Fletcher across to 275 and ride that all the way down to the 38th Avenue exit. Take that to 4th Street, hang right, and before you know it, you're there. I ride from 22nd Ave to the Cypress exit every day and it's about 15-20 minutes in commuter traffic.

Harvey's is in a small strip mall that sits well back from the street, affording quite a bit of parking. There's also an adjacent lot for another (even further back) strip of storefronts to the left of Harvey's when you're facing the restaurant.

That makes you "formal." Not that we wouldn't let you in, as I said. But the more who sign up, the more t-shirts we get to hand out. (Hint: not everybody will get one... sort of 1st come, 1st serve...)
And the little icon that looks like a piece of notepaper with an arrow that's next to the bold location line is a Google map link, too.
