More generally there is more pressure on kids these days. They didn't used to have to take on 5 or 6 figures of debt to get an education that is basically mandatory to do even entry level clerical jobs these days. They aren't snowflakes, they have just been battered by the mistakes and terrible advice of previous generations.

Google made the default setting on Android to only locate items that are picked up by multiple devices, and away from the user's home. So basically only in busy areas like airports or city centres. There is an option to opt in to reporting everywhere with a single ping, but I imagine the take-up is extremely low and you are reliant on someone having opted in if your device goes missing.

There's an open source app that lets you use Samsung tags on any Android phone. I suggest getting those as they will probably be on sale soon. Their network works as well as Apple's.

Recycling is effective when done right. While we do need to stop putting more microplastics into the environment, being able to remove them will be very useful because there are already vast quantities there. The key will be doing it cheaply.
