Although the impact on children was big, the schools were only really closed for under a year. Lockdowns started Easter-ish 2020 and then the UK was going through its lockdown easing steps a year later after the vaccine program had been going full-steam since January 2021, with about 90% school attendance by March 2021. I remember American colleagues shocked at our levels of freedom so soon! London was buzzing again very quickly.

Have you been to London? The traffic in the centre is as bad as it ever was. It's faster to cycle.

Work from home has increased traffic in the outer boroughs during the work day.

The ULEZ brought the biggest improvements in air quality in the outer boroughs. Inner boroughs benefitted too. Sounds like a win.

I ditched Firefox and Chrome at least 13 years ago and have used Safari exclusively since. In fact, Chrome hasn't ever been installed on this MBP, which I've had for five years. I don't miss their bloating and battery drain, nor having a privacy raping app from Google. I also appreciate the integration with Messages and Mail for how easy this makes 2FA on web sites that send codes, as well as unified keychain and history across all of my devices. That doesn't mean I'm unaware of the current state of the other browsers: I do have FF, which I dabble with occasionally, but it drives me nuts, it's just shit and it's obvious why it's losing market share, and I get forced to use other browsers on remote Windows machines or in local VMs of Windows and Linux.

Speak for your country, not the rest of the First World. I haven't experienced a power outage since I left N. America in 2008. Given the lag in grid investment here in the UK to reshape it with all the changes, that might change. But for now, it's been incredibly stable.
