Journal turgid's Journal: Grumpy 11

I've been getting very grumpy and short-tempered recently. In fact, I've almost had road rage a few times.

Grumpy

  • I suggest beer and curry with me, soon, as a cure. I'm in London for the next 3 weeks...
  • I get angry when behind the wheel from time to time. Bear in mind that a good yell often does enough to release the tension (if you haven't got passengers, who it tends to scare).

    Remember that in many situations - in fact, anywhere you've got some speed up rather than fuming in a traffic jam - most road-rage style actions (driving close to gesticulate, driving aggressively not to let someone cut in, etc) will directly put your life in danger. Don't endager your life just to make a point to someone drivi
    • Argggh!

      Where did you see that?

        Where did you see that?

        Right here on slashdot. Wish I could say I'd thought of it :D

          Of course, if I really wanted to scare you, I could have said something like "Line 24 of kernel/sched.c".
          • I see what you mean :p [linux.no]

            Was your .sig originally in someone's code? I assume that you don't mean that it's in the slashcode itself. It would actually be a good comment if the programmer was coding for an embedded system, and only had 4K to play with. You don't necessarily want every function to have it's entirely seperate variable space!
            • Oh, someone claimed in a comment thread about bad code to have seen this line 'in the wild', though it seems much too crazy - probably someone thought it up as a joke.

              Ah, a swift google says it's from a post to rec.humor.funny - Malicious #defines [netfunny.com]

              My other favourite, not on the list above, is
              #define sizeof(x) rand()

              (I read this one on bash.org. This would be a good line to put at the bottom of someone's stdlib.h if they've annoyed you and you can get access to their machine)
              • Yeah, my comment on embedded systems was off-tangent. My mind attempts to put everything in a sensible context, but the answer is to use unions in the first place.

                I'm wondering if the code would compile; it's the sort of thing that you'd expect to be illegal. And yet, with operator overloading in C++, you just wonder...
                • #define sizeof(x) rand()
                Your choice is better. Definately. This one's just malicious.
  • Do you have any idea what is causing this grumpiness?

    • by turgid ( 580780 )

      Personal fatigue and a supercillious intolerance for the apathy, stupidity and lack of vision of the Human Race... and the realisation that this is it, there's no where to go, and that I'll never amount to anything.

      • Thank god, I feared I was the only one feeling that way.

        Any thoughts on how to deal with it yet? Personally, I am flipping through weeks of "if I work hard I can overcome the fuckwits surrounding me" and weeks of "what's the longest win streak I can get in Freecell?" -- and at the end of the day, neither course of action proves very satisfying (or stress relieving).

You had mail, but the super-user read it, and deleted it!

Working...
