KDE was supposed to be an open-source replacement for CDE, the standard and very usable desktop for Unix workstations. The last time I saw KDE running on a machine it looked like Windows 11. But I guess this is what people want because most Linux window managers look like Windows 11.
Not me. FVWM FTW!
As an electrical engineer I understand math is hard, but it still amuses me (saddens, really) every time I read an article and they present units that don't make sense. Sadly, it seems articles get it wrong more than the get it right.
Joke's on you, I've been using Motif since 1992. Well, FVWM made to look similar to CDE with Motif window decorations. Easy to grab and resize windows. Everything is very clear and has a purpose. It's unlike the Windows 11 (or earlier 10) system I'm forced to use at work, where it's not plainly obvious which window has focus, and clicking outside a window can annoyingly still have an effect on said window.
And don't get me started on this transparency crap. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. I don't understand how people like that or can even stand it. It gives me a headache as my eyes attempt focus on something that is permanently out of focus, even in the periphey.
In the US, some states have them and others do not. It's typically (but not always) paid at the same time as the registration. There wasn't property tax on my car in the state where I grew up, but when I moved to my current state I got quite the shock when I went to register my vehicle. I was expected just a $40-$50 registration, but on top of that there was about $300 in personal property tax. I think in most states it decreases each year as it's based on the value of the vehicle. So there's an incentive to keep a vehicle longer. These days the property tax on my 2010 civic is much lower than the registration fee.
They couldn't have squeezed another 10 MWh into it?
Yeah, I like how the e-mail they sent out said they're switching to an "industry leading" limit of 20 GB storage. No, the industry leading limit was 1 TB that they previously had, now they're knocking it down by a factor of 50 and telling people it's a Good Thing(tm).
If you're over the limit at the switch you will no longer be able to send or receive e-mail until you get below the limit.
Oh, and want to know how much you're using? Sure, we'll tell you, but only if you switch to the newest (crappy) version of Yahoo Mail with a terrible interface.
What's a computer?
Our tax dollars paying for this is bad enough, but paying for it multiple times?
I agree with Clinton and Obama... we need an audit of the government to stop this wasteful spending.
It's no different that app auto-update on your iPhone or Android phone.
Yes, there is a big difference. iOS and Android apps, for the most part, handle *all* installations and updates through their own app stores.
Windows doesn't (I don't know of anyone that uses the windows store app at all). In fact, sometimes apps can't (shouldn't be updated) due to compatibility issues - sometimes because of peripheral compatibility and stuff. Updates can go very bad if the conditions aren't right.
They should put a physical button on your pc's case that lets you toggle between the two modes. They could label it something simple, like "turbo"...
What's old is new again!
... Double-press the Windows key once more...
Alternatively, at that point you can single-press the Windows key twice.
My thoughts exactly. If "AI can already do all of the jobs that we, as humans, do" then it sounds like the first position to be replaced with AI should be the CEO.
Seriously, who buys these things? I know I lead a sheltered life, but I don't think I've ever seen any Surface product in the wild.
And yet, leftists and democrats continue voting for regressive taxes. My city, which is in a major metro area and always votes pretty strongly 'D', also just recently passed a new local sales tax, with 79% voting 'for'. I'm one of the few conservatives, and I voted against this regressive tax.
What's the difference between a computer salesman and a used car salesman? A used car salesman knows when he's lying.
