The numbers have been revised a little, closer to 4.5%, and that's still super conservative (that's the amount of money you'd need to spend to survive the worst case scenario for 30 years). With 1.5 Mil in savings, you could safely withdraw $65K/year and be safe. The average of safety is closer to 7%, which means that you only need $1M to retire (yeah, with a bit more risk). It's not about kindness... Except that this is not a matter of taste, it's a matter of preventing a whole set of copy/paste bugs by not using significant indentation. Significant indentation introduces bugs without helping readability in any measurable way or improving anything else.

We're an 80% scala shop with 20% Python. I haven't heard a single scala dev defend significant indentation. It sucks, it's stupid, it causes errors in reality.

"Then there is Scala 3, research name Doty: you can freely mix Python like blocks with curly braced blocks. Super cool and super readable language." And then... enough of us in the scala community absolutely and positively hate it. Thankfully there's a compiler option to prevent it. Yes, significant indentation is a stupid idea.

I moved out of CA in December to NV.... I'm in IT as so is my spouse, given that we could both work remotely there was no point in staying in CA. The fires sucked, the government sucked, the taxes, most of all, sucked horribly, getting a 10% of my money back just by moving out is awesome. I was also paying more in taxes (even with the Prop13 cap) and way more in home insurance. ROI for moving was at about 6 months. What I'm getting to hate is people who are living CA for places like NV and want to bring their taxes and regulations with them.... but I feel the same way about people who move here from TX and want to bring their theocratic laws with them. This is why we can't have nice things.

Back in the 486 days, IIRC you could get a math co-processor (a 487). Both chips were identical, only one had the math coprocessor disabled. The moment you put the coprocessor in it's socket, the main processor would be disabled and only the co-processor was active.

I would love to have my measurements exactly scanned, I could then use them to make a tailoring body double, a basic block, etc and seriously improve the quality and fitting of what I can make.
