For what it's worth, NV is allegedly supplying chipsets to Nintendo at a cost of around $150 per unit. That's a significant step up from the cheap tx1 garbage that went into the original Switch.

Unlike MS and Sony that sell consoles at a loss, Nintendo always insists that their hardware generate a net profit.

Comment But who will train the AI? (Score 1) 73

Certainly Mr. Smith would like for AI to replace millions of people in the finance sector. But if you eliminate 60% of finance workers and make the remaining 40% dependent on AI to do their jobs, it's going to really narrow down future training data. AI will be consuming its own output.

It actually does, even in the brief summary. But you're promoting a fallacy (scientists "demanded" MTBE be added to gasoline) when what actually happened were policy makers demanded MTBE be added to gasoline and various scientists offered it as an option And defended its use even in the face of opposition. Hence my link to an old article and study from the late 90s related to that dispute.

Intel does have some low-cost processes like 22FFL, but overall, yes, CHIPS was always a scam given that the driving impetus behind it was a shortage of automotive chips during COVID. Which is something you wouldn't necessarily make at Intel. Certainly not with any of their expensive recent nodes.

There goes their marketshare. The only reason why they stayed in the datacenter market at all was low margins/discounted product. They cut a lot of deals to get people to buy Sapphire Rapids. That memory has not faded. DC customers are going to demand more discounts if they're expected to buy delayed products. Given Intel's current track record, they'll probably miss their ideal ship date for Diamond Rapids.

Maps that existed before phones/computers didn't give you realtime traffic conditions for roads.

If Google Maps shows mass road closures then something's up, and it's worth it to double check with other sources. At least in the US, various state-level Departments of Transportation will sometimes provide road closure data to the public, or warnings/notices in the case of big accidents. Worst case you turn on the TV or radio to see if there's news of a massive local traffic pileup.
