Journal rdewald's Journal: wt-loss, www-pain, www-comfort, reality, and Austin music 18

I now primarily write my weight-loss essays for the fatloser.org web site, so instead of cutting and pasting content here, I'll just be posting linkage, but I want you guys to still comment here if you are not on the losers listserv.

368.5 (-113.5/-55.5) Perfecting Patience - The hardest thing about losing weight (for me right now) isn't the expending more calories than I consume part, it's the patience part.

Does anyone have a web hosting provider they are particularly happy with? Mine's been causing me pain today and this is starting to be a bit too familiar.

So, something's up with Sol, and TL is being the messenger and Sam is visiting her in his dreams. Blinder's in a world of pain, in some measure because of compassion for Sol, but in another measure because the lights are on a bit bright in his life right now.

I hope it's not lost on the more jaded of my readers that this is as real as real life (RL) gets, perhaps even a bit more because usually friends don't communicate quite this effectively and efficiently in RL. There may be those that dismiss Sam's dreams as he tries to, i.e., as just the fact that TL's JE put her on his mind, but there are others, such as myself, that really don't have a lot of respect for the notion that what we all agree on as "real life" is in any important way distinct from the real life of our thoughts.

So, according to my world view, there is little difference between Sam sitting across a table from Sol and dreaming about her on the really important levels of reality. Sure, he can't reach across a dream and comfort her with his touch, but that "touch" is just the illusory energetic interaction of a bunch of empty space with another bunch of empty space, the intention and neurochemical constructs provide sensory feedback to his consciousness, the very same consciousness that creates the sensory experience we call dreams. So, if you want me to accept that stroking someone's hair as a gesture of compassionate comfort to them is real, you're going to have a hard time convincing me that being with them in a dream, or in your prayers, or in just a moment of quiet inner reflection, is any less real.

So, pray for Sol. Close your eyes and hold her in your arms, it doesn't matter if you don't know what she looks like. Coo comforting things in her ear, stroke her hair and dry her tears. Either this is real or nothing is, folks.

I have been listening to my favorite hometown radio station, KGSR, for the past couple of weeks at home and at work. They had some problems with their stream in the recent past, but it certainly seems to me that they have cleared all those up now. I HIGHLY recommend their stream to you. It is really all what's best about Austin, Texas as a music town. Unfortunately, you just missed the Sunday night new music show, but you should try and catch it next week, and when you do, know that you'll be listening to the same thing that I am listening to in the car as I visit Austin next week! Cool, huh? It's like you're in the car with me! If we are hearing the same thing, aren't we sharing the same space in some ways? Isn't that real enough for ya?

Hey, roll down that window and let some of this smoke out of here.

    • In a way, it does make sense just given what you already know. You were in a big house (the internet) walking around looking for Sol who's hiding (not posting). At least that's how I'd interpret it. :-)

Richard, I didn't know you were from Austin! I loved it. Are you going to visit dubiousdave while you are there? Have a blast...

  • There is always SlashChick's company, simpli.biz. Uptime has been really good, and they have been incredibly responsive when I've had a few issues. The only niggle is that slashchick.com seems to be WAYYYY more responsive then refundersrefuge.org. Benefits of being the boss, I guess:)

  • I will say that Beach Comber [beachcomber.net] is a great hosting company. I also know that they are quite responsive to any problems that arise.

They do a healthy amount of business with us, and if you go to places like webhostingtalk.com you will find they have a pretty good reputation.

I have not used them personally, but you don't build up that many servers by having crap service.
  • I actually dreampt of Sol last night. And since I've spent the better part of a day with her, and talking to her as much as i do... it was very real. we were in boston, walking around harvard square... and the streets were really crowded (as usual) and she was just talking about her music... like getting really detailed about everything she wanted to do... but i couldn't focus on what she as saying because I kept seeing these weird faces in the windows of the building... at first i thought they were just li

I'm not any good at interpreting dreams, I think that takes a lot of training in symbology and a lot of familiarity with the dreamer, but having said that, it seems like you believe you were seeing some threat, perhaps an otherworldly or ethereal one, and that you feel she doesn't take it seriously, either for good reasons or not. In any case, I think dreams about a person in particular are important.

I had a dream years ago that still burns bright for me today. I dreamt about a woman I know, and much of

Actually I think this comes very close as an analogy - except that you don't already have the "bachelor's degree". Think back to your first or second year in college, overloaded with classes, cramming for finals ... it probably felt like you were never going to make it to graduation. A bad grade on a single paper and you feel like you'll never get it figured out.

The hardest part is when you have lost enough weight that you need new clothes, but you realise that you will need another wardrobe replacement (or two) before you are at your target weight. The thought of buying a heap of new clothes that you are going to have to get rid of in a couple of months just seems like a waste.

And that's where I'm at at the moment - needing new
