Journal rdewald's Journal: Obligatory Religious Quiz JE 19

Quiz here.

Buddhism - 79%
Islam - 71%
Paganism - 58%
Hinduism - 58%
Judaism - 54%
atheism - 54%
Satanism - 54%
Christianity - 33%
agnosticism - 29%

Holy Muhammed, Batman! Islam? I really don't know anything about Islam, but I am surprised I scored so high in any of the Abrahamic faiths, being an atheist with regard to the big guy in the robes.

Some of the questions were worded in such a way that made choosing an answer a bit difficult like "There should be no images, statues, etc. of God or his messengers." When you don't believe in God, but you do venerate images of the Buddha and the Boddhisattvas how do you answer that question?

Oh well, that was sort of fun.

  • Jeez, looking at those numbers, I cannot figure out what percentage of what people are. Everything adds up to much more than 100% :-)

    • It isn't dividing a single person into all the categories. It is measuring how much you match each faith individually. So 79% means that there is about 21% of Buddhism he doesn't match up to exactly. Thus, he is a closer match to Buddhism than Islam, but his beliefs do match Islam to some degree.

As he said, some of the questions weren't very easy to decide how to answer. For example: "Because I haven't made up my mind, I never rule out the possibility of God's existence." If you answered Don't Agree
  • Christianity 83%
    Paganism 46%
    Judaism 46%
    Buddhism 46%
    Hinduism 42%
    Islam 38%
    agnosticism 25%
    Satanism 25%
    atheism 8%

Seeing that I am a christian, that wasn't surprising. If I wasn't christian (maybe if I wasn't raised christian), I think I'd probably be a buddhist, which makes sense why it was tied for my second choice (judaism wasn't surprising, seeing that it is closely resembled to christianity without the jesus bit). Paganism was surprising, as was 25% satanism... wtf is
  • You are... an atheist, though you probably already knew this. Also, you probably have several people praying daily for your soul. Instead of simply being "nonreligious," atheists strongly believe in the lack of existence of a higher being, or God.

    Atheism 92%
    Satanism 92%
    Buddhism 83%
    Paganism 58%
    Agnosticism 50%
    Christianity 33%
    Judaism 33%
    Islam 17%
    Hinduism 4%
  • I think that the images question might have been a discrimminator for Islam in particular. A lot of these quizzes are fairly poorly constructed, but that's part of the fun of it. They pull up some results from out of the blue (even though such results tend to be completely wrong).
    • Plus for some reason they misspelled "Jeebus".

      My score:

      Buddhism 92%
      Islam 79%
      agnosticism 79%
      Hinduism 67%
      atheism 63%
      Satanism 58%
      Paganism 58%
      Judaism 42%
      Christianity 33%

Not too suprising; I don't really consider myself anything, but Buddhism is certainly the closest to my belief system. Satanism/Paganism beating out Christianity is rather interesting however.....

In other words, am I forbidden from drawing a stick figure, writing "GOD", and connecting the two with an arrow?
    • In other words, am I forbidden from drawing a stick figure, writing "GOD", and connecting the two with an arrow?

Depends on which way the arrow is pointing. :-) There are some sects, IIRC, where the writing of "GOD" would be problematic (that is, the name of their deity is considered sacred, and writing it is blasphemy). And look at what L. Ron Hubbard came up with! Probably the result of a bad LSD trip.
    • Well, not actually *forbidden* as such; just, uhh, might wanna have a fire extinguisher handy, 'kay?
  • Christianity 71%

    No surprises here.

      • I was atheist (71%) with Satanism coming second last at 33%

Most people scoring highly for atheism are showing almost identical scores for Satanism, so I wonder which questions in that grouping you answered differently from the norm. Or, it could just be that you feel about the same as the rest of us heathens, yet reacted differently to having the Strongly Disagree and N/A choices smeared together in such a confounding way.

Or maybe I really am just a closet Satanist. Hmm, that can't be right; If I don't b
  • but it's against my religion. :)

Some of the questions need to be worded better. One of them asked if I believed that I should be able to do whatever I enjoy, without limitations. But what if I enjoy harming others?

At any rate, it says that I am an atheist.
