And I never check it. Welfare for millionaires so that they can spend less money for more power.
I wished the tax form came with a "how do you want your money allocated?" box. I think I'd do 60% NASA, 20% basic science research, 19% educate the poor, and 1% defense, with the understanding that when the troops come home and actually defend, say, the UNITED STATES, that I'd be willing to increase that.

Me too and me too. I don't believe in public financing of campaigns, and I'm almost with ya on the percentages: 60% NASA, 20% basic science research, and 20% defense. It's refreshing to see someone else thinking more emphasis needs to be put on space exploration, being the kind of person as I am to believe that we need to shift some of the focus of obsessing about our world to remembering that there are things larger than just us and our petty* problems, and that possibly even some answers to our world's pr

Full disclosure: I work at a lab where my position is 100% funded by NASA. :-) Of course, yours is the real reason I would allocate that way, since I don't work here for the money. I could make 20%-40% more in the private sector, but what we do is just too cool to not do.

Well, in fairness to Palin, the decision for the campaign to accept public funds was made prior to her joining the campaign. So I see no irony here.

True, though I find it amusing that she doesn't support this fund, and the McCain campaign raised such a huge stink when Obama said no to those funds as well. In the grand scheme of things not a big deal, and frankly I don't know how *I* feel about publicly funded campaigns myself.
