I've largely left Slashdot ... still read it occasionally but if I read one more highly moderated Jane Q. Public post I will diminish and go into the West.

The quality of discussion on this site has deteriorated significantly in the past few years. That has triggered the departure of a large number of people. On top of that you get more recent and relevant tech news from digg, reddit, or google news anyways.

but it is my lowest priority site. i also have branched out into talking to neighbors about things, and i am considering if it techncially feasible for me to switch from open source to free software... the idea that i am a slave to my open source and closed source programs has turned me off from what i used to do. the four freedoms of free software sounds very promising for building a better civilization.
