Journal grub's Journal: Litigious Bastards 12

Back on January 17 of this year I proposed a "GoogleBombing" for SCO in this posting.

A user commented in my journal that it's now working! Go to google, enter "litigious bastards", then click "I'm Feeling Lucky". You'll end up at Caldera's webpage. :)

This makes me so damn happy I feel like calling up Darl to ask if he's heard the good news.

  • The #1 hit is to Caldera right now. #2 is a site that claims it was #1 for a while and comments on the whole L.G. link stuff.
  • You get the same result if you just type in "bastards".
  • Do you remember getting an e-mail some time back asking you to change your link to point at "caldera.com", because Google had blocked the "sco.com" link? Yeah, that was me. When I realized Google had blocked the bomb, I went around to a whole ton of web pages e-mailing people, posting comments, etc., telling them to switch. It appears that your site is still linking to "sco.com". Looks like you ignored me. :P

    • I was wondering why it goes to Caldera. :) I didn't see your mail, will have to go back through my log. SCO and Caldera both use the same web server and IP so that may have helped too.

      Good work!
      • Pretty sure Google treats them separately. If you search for "SCO", you get sco.com and caldera.com as separate entries. Besides that, there are lots of very separate web sites on the net that share IP addresses using virtual hosts, so for Google to assume two sites on the same server were the same site would simply be wrong. I suppose they could check to see if the sites were identical, but that's such a rare case that I doubt they'd bother.

      • Good work to you too! ::waits for the 15-second reply filter to wear off::
  • Sadly, it appears as if the "caldera.com" link has now also been blocked. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
