Submission + - CT Senator wants to keep children from playing with arcade guns. (joystiq.com)

Nyder writes: In a move that is sure to bring tears to the eyes of kids everywhere, Connecticut State Senator Toni Harp proposed a bill in January that would ban anyone younger than 18 from playing "violent point-and-shoot" video games in arcades or other public establishments.

The bill also called for research into the effects of violent video games on young minds, through a committee called the Violent Video Game Task Force within the Department of Children and Families. The task force would advise the Governor and General assembly on state programs that "may reduce the effects of violent video games on youth behavior," suggesting before the research was done that violent video games have an effect on children's actions.

Hopefully this won't pass, I guess the video game lobby hasn't paid this Senator enough "funds" for his campaign.

If your end users will need to run 24 hours a day you will need to test 24 hours a day.

We have number of little (Linux of course) boxes using 3G USB modems here in Sweden, and have discovered that Telia does all sorts of maintenance at night and at weekends.

Furthermore the latency (as measured by ping) varies quite a bit depending on time of day, i.e. when the local farmers are downloading their porn.

Another thing we've come across is that the versions of the USB modems changes with great frequency! Which of course means when they break you have to be very careful who changes them.

Good luck!

Journal Journal: Don't understand much anymore! 1

I don't really understand the current Slashdot interface any more. It took me an age to find the link to add an entry in this journal! OK, now I know it's down the bottom on a tab thing. I suppose I don't actually know where it was before, since if you look at my submissions to the journal they aren't very frequent!
