I mean "good luck" to any of us still breathing after after WW3.

You managed to highlight arguably two of THE worst automobile makers on the fucking planet, to justify their design decisions?
I didn't justify anything. I only cited counter examples to show that shitty design is not unique to EVs.
If you want to rail against EVs, you'll have to pick a different reason.
I agree. But my post was intentional hyperbole to question at what point we draw the line for discussing insignificant pollution versus the overwhelmingly larger portion. If I bring up fossil fuels versus electric cars, and someone wants to chime in a whataboutism and rant about tires, then I think we have a duty to push back on nonsense with more nonsense.
And poking around, while there isn't data on shoe rubber contributing to the environment. We do have data on the significant portion of environmental microplastics coming from textiles, and a significant amount of larger plastic pollution (which eventually degrades into microplastics) coming from footwear. The ocean is filling up with flip-flops. And collectively it's more significant in impact and weight than tire microplastics.
Don't get me wrong. You don't want tire microplastics washing into your fields and harming your crops. It's nasty stuff. But there is not a big enough to outweigh every other part of the EV vs ICE debate. ICE loses big time in every respect that matters.
Shoes create a lot of rubber pollution too. When the tread wears off on your shoes where do you think it goes? And don't get me started on all the problems associated with bicycles.
I mean these problems are MINUSCULE compared to the measurable environment problems in industry and agriculture. But let's not ignore them, that's because it's fun to argue about absolutely unhinged stupid shit on the Internet.
Range Rover Velar has electronic flush door handles and a 5.0L V8. So I don't know if you hate EVs or hate being burned alive inside your car.
Maybe that's just a one-off? Well there's the Cadillac CTS-V, with a 5.7L V8.
Tesla S is just one of many EVs. A few others go with those silly flush door handles and several others do not.
Isolation is bad for business.
Which is why I'm against politicized tariffs or high tariffs (either is bad)
China has always required a visa
Visa on arrival is still a thing in parts of China. And it's how I visited Shenzhen. It's around $120 for the 5-day tourist Visa for Shenzhen (and perhaps other economic zones, I don't know).
The vast majority of Americans don't travel outside of North America and not only don't care about the power of our passports, but likely don't even hold a passport.
If only I had a world wide communications network that I could layer some decent services on, then I could replace the World Wide Web or Internet with my own idea!
I think the problem that would face is a lack of users ready to buy things from the ads they click on. Which was the same problem we had in the first 20+ years of the Internet. Most people really didn't spend money on there if they could avoid it.
The 1993-2023 Internet is definitely dead. But I don't think anyone should miss it or even care.
The 1983-1993 Internet could rise again, and in a way it continuously pops up in obscure little corners. Like a virtual particle in quantum physics.
Convenience is why we use BMI. Measuring body fat percentage directly is a bit of a pain. The technology is there to do it in a doctor's office (there are several ways). But when height and weight are already taken with patient vitals, the BMI is basically a free number.
Sometimes BMI does correlate with body fat percentage, but sometimes it's way off. It's both a great metric because it's simple, but also a terrible metric because it frequently misrepresents patients and cannot paint a complete picture of health.
BMI will be gone in a few years. Unfortunately you are going to be horrified what we replacing it with:
AI trained on body images that will estimate your body fat % with a few faceless in-your-underwear images taken from your phone or in doctor's office (faceless meaning a below the neck picture)
And then they would be denied health insurance?
What if that obese person is rich? We shouldn't tax them because that's what communists do.
Even better, if a person is rich then it shouldn't be possible to categorize them as obese. I would violate their right to a free lunch.
Deaths from heart attacks have gone down over the last few decades (even in the US). But more people than ever suffer from chronic heart disease.
Is it a scam to sell pharmaceuticals, or just a consequence of addressing the immediate life-threatening condition without getting to the root cause?
From NIMH:
Any mental illness (AMI) is defined as a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder. AMI can vary in impact, ranging from no impairment to mild, moderate, and even severe impairment (e.g., individuals with serious mental illness as defined below).
Serious mental illness (SMI) is defined as a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder resulting in serious functional impairment, which substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities.
We could live in a world where the vast majority of people have some type of identifiable mental illness, but isn't impaired or debilitated by it.
Statistically, we can look at populations with some identify condition. Such as obesity, hypertension, etc and make a statistical connection to likely outcomes in those groups. Even if an individual is not impaired or at put at risk by their obesity, a significant number of people in the same group are at an elevated risk if not already impaired.
It's wrong to carry the idea that mental illness or obesity or whatever is an either you have it and are affected by it, or don't have it. There's more grey area than there is black and white. And you're giving up a lot of useful information if you want to ignore the gray area.
What's this sleep you speak of?
Parents get absolutely WRECKED when they have young children. And many adults never return to their original sleep schedule, even when their children are basically all grown up. (I mean when do kids move out these days, 40 or 50 years old?)
Feel disillusioned? I've got some great new illusions, right here!
