Toronto company using lake water to cool buildings expands system
Enwave Energy Corporation says move will save 350 Olympic-size swimming pools' worth of water

A Toronto-based energy company says it is expanding its system that uses cold water from the depths of Lake Ontario to cool several buildings downtown.

Enwave Energy Corporation announced the newest expansion of its deep lake water cooling system at a news conference on Thursday. The system has been in place for 20 years and expansion began in 2021, the company says.

The expansion involves putting a three-kilometre pipe into Lake Ontario, then drawing in water at temperatures of 4 C through a new tunnel about 90 metres below the surface to the company's John Street Energy Centre, near Rees Street and Lake Shore Boulevard W.

Comment StackOverflow for Teams? (Score 2) 103

I worked at a big bank and knowledge management was an after-thought. Confluence was seen as a "A place where knowledge goes to die". I heard about StackOverflow for teams and thought it was a good fit -- we have a lot of siloed (even worse with Covid/WFH) developers and a lot of large complex systems. Just knowing who to ask was often a mystery. Having a place to ask and share would have been a great tool.

Unfortunately management churn ensured it never made it to the funding stage, and then co-pilot (which totally lacked our institutional knowledge) was posited as an alternative. That was the end of that. Sad.
