Submission + - Commodore smartphone hits trademark opposition (amiga-news.de)

damnbunni writes: As reported on amiga-news.de, it appears that Massimo Canigiani didn't license the Commodore trademarks before announcing that Commodore PET Smartphone. The company that actually owns the mark, Commodore Holdings, is not amused.

It's not like it would have been hard to determine who owns it and try to license. The C= Holdings trademark is registered with the same EU agency 'CBM Limited' applied for a new mark.

I can't see much of an excuse here. The company holding Commodore's trademarks is literally Commodore Holdings. They can't even go "We had NO IDEA who to contact!"

Submission + - Frederik Pohl passes away at 93 (theregister.co.uk)

damnbunni writes: Frederik Pohl, one of the last Golden Age science fiction authors, passed away on September 2nd of respiratory distress, as reported on his blog [http://www.thewaythefutureblogs.com/]

Pohl is perhaps best known for his Heechee Saga novels, beginning with Gateway in 1977, but his work in pulp magazines in the '30s and '40s helped give rise to science fiction fandom.

Submission + - The End of the Dr. Demento Show on radio. (drdemento.com) 1

damnbunni writes: Dr. Demento has announced that his long-running comedy radio show will be ending. Modern 'format' radio has been less and less friendly to oddball and offbeat programming, and after years of declining station membership the Doctor announced on June 6th that his radio show will be no more. He will still stream shows from his web site, drdemento.com. While I'm very sad to see the show go, 30 years is a pretty good run.
