damn_registrars's Journal: A silver lining - will Trumpism bring about understanding?

Now of course Trump is not himself about learning or understanding; it's very much antithetical to his being.

However, Trumpist facsism can only last so long. At some point his cult will collapse. Perhaps at that point we can be thankful for just how incompetent his children are politically, as none of them are well positioned to take over when he dies.

Once Trump is gone, and his grip on the GOP is released, conservatives will need to have a new reckoning. This will be an even more profound one than after Nixon's resignation. They will eventually claim that Trumpism is "not real conservativism". When they make this argument will they learn the true meaning of such a declaration?

In particular, will they then be capable of recognizing a few simple truths about global politics? Namely:

• Nazis were not socialists
• Soviet "communists" were not Marxist communists
• The Chinese one party state is also not Marxist communist
• Nobody in the democratic party is a socialist or a communist

Right now the contest is between fascists and cowards. The "independents" cannot compete with the way the system is set up. I'm sorry that is the case, but we all know it's true. I've seen people make that argument before, that there is no difference. You can make that argument if you want, but if you can't provide a viable candidate then you're not helping anything.

To grasp what has happened, you just have to realize that some political supporters have gone into "Sports Teams" mode. They have turned politics into an Identity Fusion issue. As I stated though, I fully expect that when the GOP digs themselves out of Trumpism, they will eventually deploy the "No True Scotsman" defense to claim that their cult leader was not a "true conservative" all along.
