And Just Like That, The Conversation Was Closed...

  • You know the rules. Now move along.

But somewhere in an alternate universe where the pudgi principle is not in force, a popular geek site does not close out conversations.

In yet a third, conversations are closed out 10 business days after the last contribution.

I confirm, however, that you, dude, do not live in those universes. So suck it up.

In a fourth, conversations are extended 4 hours from the last comment in an attempt to cut off comment snipers, who many claimed were ruining the system while others pointed out that if everyone would just put everything they were willing to put into the discussion in their first comment, it wouldn't be such a big deal.

      • So does a comment sniper lay in wait of the two week deadline, then just before that, fire a devastating round that no one can return, when the topic closes?

If so, 4 hours makes some sense, but talking about "cutting off" confuses me. And 4 hours just means comment snipers will post when their opponent is asleep.

It seems allowing two weeks would give other comment snipers more time to find a comment sniper who wanted the last word, and deny it to them by beating them to death with an endless set of respons

  • While reading through the conversations that you, pudge confirmer, and an anonymous troll have had with his pudginess of late, I've come to a few realizations.

First, you gotta stop feeding the troll, for that is what pudge is, plain and simple. If he is not a troll, then he is a very high functioning autistic or something like that who has less than zero interpersonal skills.

Second, if you insist on talking to him, your goal cannot be elucidation, education, or enlightenment; it can only be your own enterta

I try to avoid using the term troll in political discussions unless the person in question in undoubtedly, purposefully, trolling. And I do that for pretty much this very reason; those who oppose statement A will call those who support statement A trolls, and vice-versa. Indeed in the past discussion Pudge called more than one person a troll.

As for his interpersonal skills, I have never met him in person. I know him only from his angry replies to me here on slashdot. There is scattered evidence that

I don't disbelieve you, but I've never seen Pudge offer up sources or explanation to anyone. He's a waste of my time generally.

Well, I can't say I have read enough of his other messages to see if he ever has done that. I can say that I have seen some insight from other conservatives here on slashdot, so I try to extend the courtesy to Pudge that he could do that as well.

And since he is the loudest of the conservatives here, he is the one I would like to ask the most questions of.

He's a waste of my time generally.

That sounds like the kind of thing he would say to most non-conservatives who would dare ask him questions. Although indeed perhaps I ought to give u

    • Finally, I think that Pudge may just be a souped up version of Eliza

Totally agree about Pudge. I'm just curious about the Eliza bit. I've never heard that reference before and was wondering what it is from?

Really? Really? Wikipedia entry on Eliza [wikipedia.org] gives the jist of it. I'm not sure if that will provide all of the flavor necessary to appreciate the comment. If it's still a little abstract, find one of the web based ones and play with it for an hour.

        • Really. Well, sort of. I knew about it, I just didn't know it was named ELIZA. And yes, it characterizes Pudge extremely well.
