Social media does not need to be killed. It has its uses. But any intentional addictiveness must be punished and I mean prison time for the CEO. Any accidental addictiveness must be reduced to sane levels. We have other addictive things and we have a level in society where we tolerate them. Social media cannot remain the outlier that can be far worse unpunished.

That is a secondary goal, but one that the authoritarian assholes that want everybody watched all the time have had since the Internet became a thing. And these people are unfortunately everywhere, like a stink of rot that is always there once you look more closely.

The problem has been recognized as severe. Yes. That is a good thing. But the response to the problem is completely misguided and probably mostly ineffective. The problem is social media addictiveness and it does very much not only affect those younger than 15 years.
