Funny thing, though. After I eventually let go of the power button (it may have even been 2 minutes that I'd kept it depressed) with the intent of physically unplugging that box - the progress bar finally started moving, and the machine installed the various updates which it had staged.

We bought some Dell towers last year where even the long press of the power button can apparently be overridden by software.

I was updating several dozen of them using fwupdmgr (followed by a reboot), but one of them never completed the update after rebooting. I gave it 24+ hours, after which it was still showing a firmware update progress bar (at 0%). At that point, despite the on-screen warning, I decided it was time to power it off. Well, I ended up holding that button down for more than 60 seconds without the machine ever shutting off (or visibly changing state at all). I assume this is a safety feature to prevent people from interrupting a firmware update...

I'm sure you're making a joke, but I'm not sure what the punch line is supposed to be.

That's storage ("disk" space), of course. It's only got 16GB of RAM.

Not to mention that, in a month or two, we'll probably learn that credit card info from the ticket purchase was somehow "mistakenly" tied to this database and was also exposed. And, in addition...

As one who's seen quite a number of relevant tech news items over the past few years - I'm not sure I'd agree with that self-assessment.

I actually agree with the US government's point here, but - Trump does exactly this (needlessly straining relations with an ally) on an almost-daily basis! He's done damage to US international relations that may take decades to repair... if repair is even possible!
