New Eternal Darkness Titles Promised 66

1up reports that Silicon Knights, maker of the Too Human and Eternal Darkness games, have promised they plan to return to Eternal Darkness at some point in the future. I wouldn't hold your breath for it, though. Any sequel to the Lovecraft-inspired horror title will be some time in coming. From the article: "'Although this [Eternal Darkness 1] is just one story we had in mind for the Eternal Darkness universe, there are even more manipulations, great ancients, and numerous other stories to tell...' The outspoken developer continues on by describing how their plans for Eternal Darkness tie into Too Human, as well; the upcoming trilogy represents an evolution of the studio's concept for Eternal Darkness. Instead of holding off on sequel treatments, however, they've instead decided to plan an overarching three-part story from day one. "

How Nintendo Could Win It All 245

ElFozzie writes "In a huge piece on mobile gaming, Pocket Gamer reports on the latest battles in the handheld console market and reveals why Nintendo might just have the right strategy to win this war. From the article: 'Let's go back the beginning, the games. It's all about the games, Nintendo's faithful fans will argue, and the DS has great, mad and unique games where the PSP so far has, at best, competent-to-very-good PS2-lite fare. Yes, but it's not that simple. See, I was there in the mid '90s playing the genre-defining Mario 64 and the breathtaking Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, perhaps the two greatest games of their generation, on the Nintendo 64. And I remember Sony going on to win that war, and PlayStation becoming the de facto shorthand for 'video games'."

Recipe for Making Symetrical Holes in Water 174

scottZed writes "Danish researchers found a simple way to make curiously shaped air holes in a bucket of water. Simply rig the bucket to have a spinning plate at the bottom, and depending on the speed, you can get an ellipse, three-sided star, square, pentagon, or hexagon. The effect may help explain such shapes seen in atmospheric disturbances on Earth and other planets. One practical use: really trippy washing machines."

Metal Gear Solid Movie Confirmed 52

Gamespot has word that the Metal Gear Solid movie project is a reality. All we really know is that Uwe Boll will not be directing. From the article: "After assuring readers at length that German director Uwe Boll will not have anything to do with the project, as rumored, Kojima talked about the film. 'I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid, It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement,' said the revered designer. 'False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood.' Kojima did not mention the name of the party, a release date, or any potential directors or stars."

The Hidden Gems of E3 63

WarpSource writes "Most people including me are excited to see what Twilight Princess has to offer, read more about Spore and possibly Halo 3 at E3 2006. Yet there are so many other games at the show besides the "big name titles". An article at Silconera mentions some of the lesser known games that deserve attention, like a Wii flight simulator, an online rollerblading music rhythm game and Dragon Quest Rocket Slime."
