is something that just isn't taught properly, if at all, in schools. We see the lack of it everywhere. So it's understandable that many are offloading this to something else because they just don't know how to do it themselves. Laziness is also a factor, yes. But inability, I feel, is the biggest factor here.

The public/private key can be big and slow, as it's only used during the initial handshaking and login anyway. I'm not going to notice any extra couple if tenths of a second logging in.

After that everything is (much much faster) symmetric encryption.

You still need a PQC algorithm here too, though. AES-256 is still considered quantum-resistant, for now, at least, so we're good.

It comes across that the players' personal data isn't the product, just the images of the surrounding area, and then then the players get some sort of (albeit virtual) reward. TBF, it's a clever idea to gamify data collection like this. Just so long as the data is just this images and location and other specific non-personal non-identifying metadata. And proper consent, too. #GDPR
