This is about forcing their competitors (google, tiktok, meta, twitter, etc) to invest in validation of users identity before allowing public posting on those services.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has no public posting capability and is not required to authenticate users age. It also is mostly pay-for-play and one of the top users of AI are kids under 18,.

So, either Google/Meta socials validate users - which wont happen - and users gravitate to AI for 'time spent'. It's a win-win for AI services.

Really, maybe Echelon was out before you were born. YOu've prolly heard of Flock - ring door bells - hundreds of exploited smart home devices. The ties between the top phone companies and the govt, go back well into the hard line era. Can llms make all that work better - surely - but whether that LLM is from anthropic, openai, meta, or downloaded from the local warez site, is a moot question. I now wonder - in the wake of the personal attacks on Altman - if Anthropic walked way from a deal with govt only to cast stones at competitors. Not crazy about openai myself, but atleast it was zuck.

That's nothing new, and nothing to do with the current crop of LLM's. We've had autonomous planes for years. We've had levels of software self driving killing machines (cars) for over a decade now. SSDD - absolutely nothing new with this stuff - just cleaner more capable software.

They've had about five years in the public eye (3 since Chatgpt tipped) to show us evidence of some grand threat or bad outocme by AI. The threat from software at this point is radically over stated. But boy, gas lighting the public, sure is profitable aye Dario? Nothing like scaring people into giving you a hundreds billion eh?

Nobody can find *hit on the first search, so they have to click again. You are sucked into clicking on "classic search", "people also ask", "click here to open", to try to get away from Google Spam and all that then counts as two searches for Google.

No body wants that. 50% of wordpress is never touched and the top plugin of the last six months is 'classic editor'. Also a good chunk of it could be replaced with open source apis (rest, etc)

You might want to take another look at AI coding. I've churned out 20 commercial plugins the last year, and I consider myself a entry level at php (my main jam is c, vb, ml, perl coding).

I had AI clone the entire wp classic editor system with all DB access into Perl for a site that only allowed Perl. Took less than an hour to get running right (prolly 4meg of code).

Seriously, we are close to being able to full clone Wordpress with a rewrite in a short amount of time. I still think AI cloning wordpress, is easier than doing the C compiler (ai is better at PHP than C). I bet a team of 3-4 guys that know PHP and Ai could clone it in under a week into something like Perl or Python.

And with vibe coding getting so good, we can create a clone of wordpress that a) 100% compat, b) runs 100x faster c) you want that in C, ML, Perl, Rails - shoot we can do Basic if you want too? e) and you want that done by lunch?.... no problem.

On the other hand, they don't want AI "fact checking" them either. They want their lies to be believed without AI checking up on them.

They think they are address 'slop' with this bill. In fact, I'd trust AI with my life before I'd trust the likes of some of these so called "News" outlets.

We just had the story on here a week-10 days ago about Anthropic paying millions to scan books to be a 'foundation in truth' from a non-fiction human source. Meanwhile, Google is setting on 40 MILLLION scanned books!? None of the other LLMs can touch that foundational lead. The only place google was behind was in public facing tech. They focused too long and hard on the enshitification of the search engine to get a real lead.
