Journal Some Woman's Journal: There goes the neighborhood. 8

Okay, I suppose in order to go, it really had to be somwhere first.

  • Last night at 3 AM the police questioned the boyfriend and myself about a disturbance in the street. (Yeah, we were standing out on the porch staring.) Apparently there was a disagreement over whether or not the involved male had stolen the involved female's wallet. They decided to carry out this discussion at a very high volume using words of which Dick Cheney would highly approve.
  • But this all pales in comparision to the suspected terrorist who lived three blocks from me. If you think about it, it's an ingenious place to hide. The population around here is so transient and weird that nobody would notice.
  • And let us not forget the guy who was shot at the gas station where I take my car for repairs. On a positive note, his being shot by their car wash reminded me that I have a free car wash there that expires soon. I should really use that up. Preferably before bar closing.
  • And due to my newspaper's random enforcement of their subscription policy, here are alternate texts of the articles:
Area Man Charged in Terror Case
Minneapolis Man Charged in Gas Station Killing

On Friday, a federal judge in New York ordered the suspect, Mohamad Kamal Elzahabi, who has lived in Minneapolis, transported to Minnesota without bail on charges of lying to federal agents.

During a series of voluntary interviews in April, Elzahabi told Minneapolis FB

Clinton Trass III, 24, is accused of shooting Ronzell L. Jones, 21, in the back after he threw rocks at Trass' vehicle, a criminal complaint said. Jones was with a group that fought with Trass and others near a car wash at Bobby & Steve's Auto World on Washington Avenue S., but it's unclear whether Jones participated in the fight.

    Trass was charged with second-degree
  • And I thought it was dangerous where I'm living!

Well, actually not. But still. Dang.

be careful. the coupon could just be a set-up. you don't want the car wash to shoot you too.

nice use of the possessive with the gerund phrase, btw. most people don't get that right.
  • I thought all the nasty stuff was in St. Paul.

I bet that the conservatives would blame all of this on "defining deviancy down"; we don't lean on people for "small" things like noise violations, truancy and the like, so they go on to bigger things such as murder. In this case, I bet that they're right.

    • Not really...think about how far the drunks would have to go to get to St. Paul! Most of them don't make it out of Minneapolis for their post-bar-closing brawls.
      • Is there a lot of hand-wringing over the issue, or are the police ready to do something serious like rounding up the drunks and hauling them off? Looks to me like a drunk in cuffs in a paddy wagon (there's a term of doubtful provenance!) isn't in a position to start a fight, let alone shoot somebody.

Might improve the tone of the neighborhood, too.
