By the way, we've sorted good wicked and evil into relative shifts. Good takes the 8-4, Wicked the four to midnight, and Evil the 12-8 AM, because, well, mornings are evil, and if i'm awake at 4 AM, no good can come of it.

    • I also miss your sanity, while I am missing my own.

It occured to me today that maybe the reason I have become so attached to Thanksgiving is the efw weeks leading in to thanksgiving for the last three or four years I have had a lot of strife to deal with.

Three years ago it was my mother's father. The year after that it was my mother's mother, last year it was my father's mother, this year it is my job that I have been with for close to 7 years.

Can't wait for thursday to relax and forget about the world

  • Well, considering I haven't seen my mom in 5 years, and my brothers haven't visited since we moved into our new house (almost a year now), and my grandfather never visited me when I was in California... although he did make the hour's drive to visit when we drove across the country.

I miss my mom's hamburgers-for-thanksgiving, and I miss my grandmother's feast for thanksgiving (when the whole family would get together -- it hasn't happened since she died, 16 years ago).

But I made green bean casserole for t
  • My Joy Division CDs.
  • If there's one snack I absolutely can't resist, it's egg nog.
  • yes, S, hands down
    • Why settle for one SO, when you can have several? :-)
      • Those would be SSOs, then - Semi-Significant Others.
        • Those would be SSOs, then - Semi-Significant Others.

Provably false, although it's a common misunderstanding, though. There's absolutely no reason why each SO shouldn't be just as significant as the others, and just as significant as if you only had one...

          • Good point. I was thinking about TL's situation, rather than yours. :-) Apologies for any offense; I did not mean to suggest that your relationships are less than significant.

Gods! Sometimes I struggle to get to grips with this American hypersensitivity when it comes to worrying about offending people[1]. No offence taken, as I assumed none was intended. And even if it was, none was taken anyway :-)

[1] Although you seem to have elected a President that does it with every word uttered. But I digress...

              • Cultural difference these days, I guess. I'm usually not that worried about it, but things have been so touchy around here these days. In my perception, anyway. I'm sorry for making you struggle...No! I'm NOT!!! :-D

Seriously, though, we really need to do something about the victim-culture that we're developing over here. It's really not healthy, for individuals or society as a whole.
  • cookies and pies that are not gluten free.

Top of the list is the pumpkin pie my sister made me every year. My Pie, to not share with any other person.... mine , mine , all mine... and a huge tub of cool whip to share with my pie - making it mine, mine , all mine.

Nothing like two slices of pumpkin pie/cool whip with a cup of hot coffee for the Breakfast after Thanksgiving.

    • Mmmmm... I prefer cherry pie, though. :-)

I suppose that one could make the pumpkin pie without the crust. I saw a recipe that called for gluten-free flour. Have you tried that? Or is it not sufficiently free of gluten? Or perhaps not readily available? Or perhaps it just does not work right. (Sol, you know anything about this?)
      • I have played with the idea of buying the gluten free gingersnap cookies to crumble and smoosh a crust.... instead of a graham cracker crust. I have found a gluten free pumpkin pie filler recipe to try.

cherry cobbler is better than cherry pie ! my aunt made some kick butt cobblers. damn, another dessert to convert over to the gluten free side. All pies/cobblers should be served warm, with cold vanilla ice cream melting into it.

  • i can't say P, because the Powerbook, will of course, be with me in boston :D (it goes where i go)

/hopes sol doesn't mind sharing bandwidth

Em, well of course... the big lug. H, because it goes without saying of course!

  • S and Y. I don't have an S at the moment, and Y is because of the last actions on the part of an S... so.. yeah.

Does the eggnog have alcohol in it? if so, I'll take a gallon to go :-)

I think the worst we ever did was asplode a gas oven. Not so bad. The destruction was relatively localized. The turkey that was roasting, however, did not make it.
  • Primarily c.

Also EM, s (wish I had one to spend the holidays with), t (particularly football).

  • and i like spending time with my family. i even like spending time with my in-laws. a family that gets along is a treasure i hold dear to my heart.
  • dragon. A holiday's just not the same without a happy dragon curled up in front of the fireplace.
  • Being realistic, I'll say A. My mom was a great cook, and I'm trying to match her, or better her, as best I can.

Of course, C looks good too. Goddess, I miss my Luger and my SKS :(

But, in reality, if I showed up at all, I'd weird them out. No Klingon regalia necessary, I'd just wear my black velvet jeans, a silk blouse, my cashmere cardigan, jewelry, makeup and perfume. Then, I'd watch my dad down a full fifth of 12-year-old singlemalt scotch (that I brought), while cussing me out for ruining his life.

Vacation days. My workplace has two works, of whom I am one, one of whom has to be here at all times.

The other one is also my manager and approves my vacation days in addition to his own.

So I don't ever get to take any extended vacations around the holidays.

(I did do an end-run around him this year, and got my new year's vacation approved by HIS boss while he was gone.=P)
  • I guess of those, it would have to be war hammer. But since it's nearly a month until the next holiday[1], I don't have to worry about it for a while.

[1] Thanksgiving, you say? I've never known when that was, but for some reason, I thought it was always on a Thursday. Guess that's not right, then...

    • Thanksgiving is always the fourth Thursday of November in the US. I'm sure that Sol is just so brimming with anticipation that she wants to start right now. :-) (ducks anticipated brick) Actually, though, my guess is that her answer would be a combination of c), Y), and H).
  • It ain't just the food that repeats on you... :( Thank goodness for radio, particularly Internet radio, during the holidays. *nod*

  • The Keshik took my Warhammer and supplied me with this brand new Mauraduer It's just as heavy, but not as heavily armoured as the Warhammer. I suppose that with its superior heat sinks and radiators I could pile half a score of pulse lasers on it without self-destructing when I fire, but I hate how the targeting system fraps out and needs repairs if you bump into anything at over 40 km/h. And the throttle controls are just too sensitive - I'm still always having to think twice when doing a three point tu
