  • The Cartman voice (from South Park) covering the Styx song "Come Sail Away" - I'm just *really* glad nobody's tried to cover anything from my favorite band, Rush.

    • Ahem. [coversproject.com] All mostly cool artists though. I don't see any boy bands covering "Subdivisions".

Thank you, cool reference site. I could very easily have done without Rush covering other bands' tunes, mostly a waste of time, and I should have realized there would be attempts at tribute to their greatness - perhaps I should have stated, more correctly, that I am blissful in my ignorance of any obviously bad parody-type covers of Rush tunes.

I dunno, I especially liked the covers they did of "Heart Full of Soul" and "For What it's Worth" on the Feedback EP.

However, there is no mapping Niel Peart's genius to strings, so it got a "nice try" from me.
Just saw them (about the fourth time) at Nissan Pavilion. Primo stuff.
    • I had no idea that existed. Now I'm morbidly curious;-)
  • He's using the song as a background for his "song" - cf. his previous works as well as rap music as a whole.

Shame really, I've seen the man live. He's very talented. I guess that Britney Spears money is too tempting though.

Kudos to the first person who mentions what S/H/A is a response to, without looking it up.
  • Life is a Highway - Rascal Flats
Tom Cochrane's version was perfect, leave it be.
  • Dylan covers are blasphemy as far as I'm concerned. ;-) Notable exceptions being Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower" and the Byrds version of "Mr. Tamborine Man".

  • Ruining Bowie & the Spider's "Starman".

Talk about missing every musical cue that makes that song great.

Mick Ronson's little lick behind Bowie's "La la las". That's supposed to sound like the sweet gates of heaven, swinging wide. If you don't have a Ronson-caliber guitar-player? Hang it up.

I have always disliked the arty, whiny little self-conscious crap that this crew dribbled out. Desecrating Ziggy topped it for me.

  • It's not quite a cover, I think it samples parts of "Genius of Love" similarly as the Kid Rock song. I like Mariah Carey's "Fantasy", though.
  • I'll give you cringe [youtube.com]!

  • During the Democrat convention (please, nobody interject politics into this as I'm sure the Republican convention will have a similar cover band too.) I particularly remember U2's It's a beautiful day which had a fairly nice sounding a capella parts to it, but mostly just made me want to listen the original. Otherwise all the other covered songs were fairly sad, which makes me wonder why they did it, because during most of the empty time they were playing plenty of 70s recordings by the original artists.
  • Every time that song comes on the radio I thinks they're playing "Werewolves of London". I get so disappointment when I realize it's just Kid Rock. Again.

  • Madonna's cover of "American Pie" makes me hate life. Rod Stewart's cover of "What a Wonderful World" just makes me hate Rod Stewart.
