But just in general there were lots of emails, Strtegy documents, etc that would be valuable as how to make this thing even if the data inside is bad or the decision made on it was bad. Plus the customer info is valuable. Spirit tried to maximize extra purchases while keeping low initial costs. All they did was shut down components of the systems e.g., wells/sewer lift stations. Most cities were able to cycle manually to get back up and running. There was not messages warning or ransom of which I am aware.

They could have done a lot more damage if they wanted to, rather than just shutting things down.

I mean thats the honest truth. They would just take the money. There really aren't industries that competitive where they would gain a whole lot of market share if they could charge lower interchange fees. It would make a difference on the margin for small struggling businesses. Its one of those things where they look at costs, and see the large number next to processing fees and try to figure out ways of not paying it. They're doing the same with electricity, wages, costs of products they sell, taxes, etc. Its just what companies do: Maximize revenue/profits, minimize costs.
