Journal Red Warrior's Journal: It's baaaack 7

Insomnia seems to run in my family, at least on my mom's side. I've dealt with it in the past, but have been largely free of it for the last couple of years.

Well, it's returned like a bad penny. A coincidence? Yeah, probably. There's nothing that I'm particularly stressed or worried about. Just normal day-to-day stuff. And like I said, it's common in my family. I've gone through it before. Just not in a while. And it was a lot less annoying when I was in my 20's to go on 4-5 hours sleep for weeks at a time.

I finally gave in and got some unisom the other day. So, I'll at least get a full night's sleep Sunday night. The downside? If I take Unisom, I will be OUT for 10+ hours. If the house burns down, I'll sleep right through it. I don't like that. OTOH, 4 hours a night is getting REALLY old.

  • couldn't go to sleep. Watched the clock until after 4am, then woke up at 5:45am. Blah.
  • ...sex. Sorry to any women listening but it's a fact that the male body wants to rest after having had sex: it's just how we're built.

Other than that, may I recommend trying to read a particularly dull book. Also works a treat for me, as does the odd bad movie: I fell asleep whilst watch Batman And Robin at the cinema no fewer than three times, much to the envy of my friends who sat through it without so much as yawning.
    • I wish I had tapes of some of my college professors; I remember barely being able to stay awake listening to them drone on. Oh and one nice thing about insomnia; you now have plenty of extra time at night to figure out what is causing it :-) One thing that helps me is if I am awake for more than 10 minutes, I get up and go read or something. After about 30 minutes of reading I am usually ready to go sleep. Beats sitting in bed for 2 hours awake anyway.
  • I got a *great* cure for that, too!! It's particularly nice when it takes more than one "dose" to do the job

Curing insomnia is one of my *favorite* tricks. :-D

  • While it has worn thin, I still live with it fairly well. It still gets old when I try to go to bed early and end up tossing and turning for 3 hours.
    • my problem is waking- i sleep, but i wake six times a night. Alpha wave intrusion. And if i go to bed too early, i wake at 4 AM and can't stay asleep more than a few minutes at a time after that. My solution is to go to bed later, and on weekends, i get up at a normal time, eat breakfast, stay up for a little while, and then go back to bed, when i can usually sleep for an extra two hours and that way at least my total is higher.

  • Maybe you need some nice, relaxing gunfire in the neighborhood to make you feel more at home.
