Journal KoriaDesevis's Journal: Catching up 16

One of the things I missed while I was gone was eating at Chipotle, arguably one of my favorite places. The closest one to me was over 70 miles away. This evening, I broke the dry spell and endulged myself in a fit of shameless gluttony.

Another thing I missed was my fat bunny. He was in the yard this afternoon. It was good to see him out there.

I missed my keyboard too. I played for a while this evening, mostly just to fill the house with music again.

Tomorrow I get to catch up with my coworkers. I am looking forward to that, although I cannot say that I enjoy the prospects of getting back to work.

  • What did your have? Did you eat the whole thing? (i.e., how about a little vicarious gluttony - I had some left-over stir-fry (nice, because the ginger has seasoned it very well by now, but not Chipotle))
    • Of course I ate the whole thing! I had the fajita burrito, carnitas (pork), chili corn, lettuce, cheese and guacamole - as always.

      • I prefer the three soft chicken tacos with the medium salsa, cheese, lettuce, and green pepper sauce, although the burritos do look awesome.

Darn diet. Although I did have some Chipolte this weekend when I went to visit the fish and boats. :) I did get made fun of, though, for eating Mexican food when I could be eating seafood. Bah!
        • I know a lot of people who love Chipolte, but I don't get it. The burritos are almost all rice, I thought rice was a side dish and not supposed to go in the burrito? And the rice isn't even spanish/mexican rice. Give me a good old fashioned fish taco or a carne asada burrito with an ice cold cerveza :)
          • Perhaps it's a matter of getting the whole meal inside the tortilla. :-) The rice is very good, though.
          • I agree with you on the Chipotle thing. I don't get it either. And the thought of rice inside a burrito freaks me out. :-)

But then again, I'm not a big rice eater to begin with. So, when I go to Chipotle (and it's not very often), I always have them leave the rice out.

        • With me, seafood wins out over any other food every time. Especially fresh, right out of the ocean seafood. Nicole and her dad are going to SC to pick up her brother who just graduated boot camp. They are bringing back a car load of fresh seafood and we are going to eat like there's no tomorrow. Yeah, and I'm supposed to be on a diet too. :-(

DP, did you tell Koria about your deer?

      • Most times I can't eat the whole thing these days. Of course, that means that I get to enjoy the rest later... Fajita burrito, heavy rice, steak or carnitas, pico de gallo, corn salsa, sour cream, half cheese.
        • I'll never understand why you people think that good mexican food needs sour cream. Just doesn't make any sense.

I prefer a carnitas burrito, pinto beans, lettuce, and the hot sauce (no cheese or sour cream).

I live in south Texas so if anyone should know how good Tex-mex is supposed to be eaten, it's yours truly :)

I live in Austin now, so I have to resort to Chipotle because there aren't any decent local joints. When I lived in San Antonio, now that was a different story.

          • Well, I would not say that it needs it. But I like sour cream. And I'm willing to manipulate the cuisine. That said, though, the authentic stuff is very good. I'm not a huge fan of lettuce in that context, I like the black beans better, and I use the Chipotle sauce for heat. Other than that... :-)

Quite right about SA. I've been there several times, and it's worth tracking down the places that serve the good stuff. Any recommendations? My older daughter lives in Austin now. Fun place to visit.
            • In SA, I recommend Rolando's for their "super tacos" (i.e. size). There's a lot of barbacoa places that only open on weekends over on Fredricksburg west of I-10. Southwest Military has a lot of places. I know my friends parents who are dentists have a personal relationship with the former head chef for the local San Fransisco steakhouses and he now has a small Mexican restaurant called My Place. I have no idea where it is unfortunately, but I will say this: dude knows how to cook some Mexican.
  • What is this Chipotle you speak of?
    • Chipotle is da awesome. especially if you are a vegetarian. think subway, but MUCH MUCH higher quality AND its burritos and tacos. Their black bean vegeteraian burritos are amazingly good.

  • I've been keeping up with your JE's, just don't have much to say because you seem to be doing fine. I'm glad you're back.
    • So you only want to talk when I'm upset about something??? ;)

      • I thought you might say that. :-)

No, I'm busy, too. I consider the JE's a message to me in a way, and I just wanted to reply and say thanks for keeping me up to date.

I am curious about what all this has taught you, I might learn something myself, but other than that I'm jsut thrilled that you're okay and looking up.
