Electric cars are simply easier to manufacture than ICE engines. The bottleneck used to be batteries, but thanks to Xi subsidizing battery R&D, that's disappearing. The complexity of ICE engines gave Japan, US, and Germany a Buffettian moat.

If the ICE companies want to survive (without protectionism), they should pressure to form international component/module standards so that it's easy to get modules from abroad and then customize vehicles for the local market(s). They'll have to survive by upselling via customization, as they can't compete on raw manufacturing alone. Factory labor rates are cheaper in China, Vietnam, etc. and dictatorships like it that way.

It's still amazing something going that fast can change its path by a whole degree. Due to luck, it didn't have to use much of its onboard fuel to get to its last 2 big targets. I hope it gets a chance to use it on something important.

There's actually another source of helium probably buried to not alarm the public - fast fission reactors. You know, the ones that make plutonium. One of the byproducts of actinide decay is helium. The US killed its attempt to modernise fast reactors in 1994 when it killed the Integral Fast Reactor. While plutonium is a byproduct, if it isn't removed through reprocessing, it is also a fissile fuel. Guess what. though - all Gen IV reactors that I've seen are fast fission reactors. Even some Gen II+ designs are - Russia has some at Belonyarsk and they've sold the design to the Chinese. Even if not betting on fission, MIT has a fusion project that is promising - H + H = He.
