Journal Ethelred Unraed's Journal: HBTM, HBTM 14

Well, technically it isn't my birthday anymore, at least not in this timezone. But still, had a great day, just spending time with the family.

Got the Winnie the Goddamn Pooh 25th anniversary DVD, so we watched that with the Confessor and Gloriana. Up until now the Confessor would get bored with movies and would leave, but this time he sat through. Winnie the Goddamn Pooh was always a fave of mine as a kid, so naturally I'm charmed.

BoE also got me a Winnie the Goddamn Pooh PS2 game (unfortunately not one of these), namely this one, which the Confessor greatly enjoyed.

As mentioned previously, I also got Afterglow from Sarah McLachlan, and also Medúlla from Björk, both compliments of SIL (much to my great surprise, as 1) we haven't been on good terms lately and 2) she hates any music from after about 1960, unless it's Chris Isaak). I listened to the McLachlan album while everyone else was taking their afternoon nap, and enjoyed it capitally. Yeah, so I have a soft spot.

My parents are sending some wool sweaters, which I badly need -- unfortunately last summer most of my sweaters all got badly moth-eaten (apparently the cedar chips and lavender did no good whatsoever), some beyond repair -- which really sucks, because some of them were pretty expensive at the time...and for whatever reason I only wear wool sweaters. Never liked cotton or acrylic, but wool's out of season...

BoE also donned her Spock ears and gave me Star Trek: Titan, Taking Wing. Ah, to have married a Trekkie...

Our priest also sent a nice birthday card (actually more like a letter) including a 6th century Irish blessing. I've been going on about the Celts and Irish music a lot lately, so it was very appropriate.

BoE also went to a huge effort to make me a cheesecake, which happens to be about the only kind of cake I like (I'm not much for sweets at all). She used our Betty Crocker cookbook (to get an American recipe) and, realizing well after closing hour that she needed a half-dozen eggs, ended up running out to get some at the gas station (which miraculously had some). Turned out great, especially considering she's never made one and had to improvise the Graham cracker crust (since Graham crackers aren't sold here).

For dinner, I went out and got some takeout from our local Indian place, which we haven't frequented for some time (largely because of the difficulties of eating out with two small kids). Great meal as usual -- the guy's cheap, but his food is damned good, and he tossed in a bunch of naan bread and papadam chips for free (the Confessor loves papadam chips and likes curry a lot already).

Best birthday I've had in ages. Oddly it's also the first one in a long time that I didn't bother planning in advance -- we just sort of played it by ear and farted around.

Now of course comes the question, what do I do for BoE's birthday in May to reciprocate?

  • Give her a small island nation, probably tropical.
  • Why, do what any other guy would do. Buy her something from the Victoria's Secret catalog. :) :) :)

  • I interpreted HBTM as "Have Been Trolled, Me?" sort of like Yoda asking whether he just bit on an FP story.

So, "Have Been Trolled You". I'm glad it was a good one. Maybe I'll get to work on that Eeyore: WYCaAMf for you. It's a good theme for a parody game.

  • What does your wife want? I'm getting my wife books for her 30th in a mere month. Its what she wants. Without having any knowledge of her other than our insights through your highly stylized representations of her, we're probably poor judges. Is she really a Trekkie? Perhaps a box set? Perhaps she'd like to hear Shakespeare in its native Klingon? Perhaps some 'her' time while you take the Confessor and Gloriana out to the country on your own for a few hours? Does she like to be pampered? Consider p

Come now. My statements concerning her are the merest facts. I portray her with a discerning eye and the deepest, sincerest candor and honesty. Surely that much is obvious.

Furthermore, she has no need of Shakespeare in the original Klingon, as she already speaks Klingon natively. (This is also known as "German".)

    • Naw, just do like I'm doing here -

Let me be the very first to wish you happy birthday for next year! ... its like leadership - find out where the crowd is heading, and run like heck to get in front of them ...

I'm thinking about writing a quick "Happy Birthday" message (truly meant), and the only thing that pops into my head is the "Happy Birthday Song" from "Bear in the Big Blue House"... (We have a DVD of a show done in Canada, live on stage. It's one where it's Tutter's birthday.) Yeah... Did I ever mention that Youngest is a fan of BitBBH? Now I can't get it out of my head.

    Anyway... Happy Birthday. :)

At first I tought this must have been some euphemism for a blowjob or "une partie de jambes en l'air".... But actually *knowing* trekkies, I first googled it [amazon.com]... You disappoint me, sonny...

    Oh, and again: Bappy Hirthday.

    • At first I tought this must have been some euphemism for a blowjob

Actually it's a euphemism for a hawtt evening with T'Pol.

Not Jolene Blalock. She's boringly human. We want Vulcan sex kittens. Yup, T'Pol.
