Journal Em Emalb's Journal: There once was a man from Polltucket 50

I find it funny (as in hehe funny) when people bitch about something I write here. It's great to see that someone cares enough to bother making a comment. Dude, you suck! is a great one. Anyhow.

On to your (hopefully) non-sucky poll:

I have/am in love:

A) No. And I never will, yada, yada, yada.

B) I think so. There was that one night in Tijuana.

C) Yeah, I've been in love. got my heart smashed into little pieces, then eaten by a dog, who then crapped on my lawn...and I stepped in it while mowing the grass. Twice.

D) I am in love now.

E) Hey Em.....what happened to you man? Your polls used to rule, now they just suck.

Thanks for reminding me I'm single, as if I didn't have my mind for my own the whole day to ponder on such things. Seriously, the only other viable option would be E... Your polling is jumping the shark.

  • Hope springs eternal, or somesuch.

We met after typing at each other on IRC and we've been together for over 5 years now.
  • And then, it rained.

    Met her on the net.

We were together for a few years.. I started to work too much, she decided she could not deal with that. Finally decided to break up with me over AIM while I was at work. Didn't even have the decency to call me.

Bleh. Took a long time to pick up the pieces. Oh hell what the hell am I talking about, I still am in some ways. ;)

    Very, very definitely option C.
  • The timeless romantic saga of a man who thought he would never find love in the world, until fate and an ex-love brought him to an anusement park log ride where he met a beautiful woman who fell in love with him despite his geeky quirks.

Even the miles could not separate the two. He was attending a big-city university while she was in a small cow-town in Wisconsin. Many hours were spent on the phone confessing their love to each other, and tear-stained letters were passed back and forth, lamenting the slown
    • Wait. Where's the punch line?

      Yes. I am an ass.

Oh, and I better answer D, or else my wife will body-slam me like the lowly worm that I am.

Yes, our first conversation was an argument, and it's gone on that way ever since (all in good fun, of course). First date, I cooked her chicken curry (she's vegetarian) and I bored her all evening talking about ST:TNG. Then we argued over music. True love, in other words. ;-)

(Ever seen "Much Ado About Nothing"? Benedick and Beatrice are so us...)

      Cheers,

      Ethelre

  • Thats right, playa. I ain't ashamed.
  • D... Oh, wait. No. That would be lust. Sorry 'bout that.

C... Can you fall out of love without having your heart crushed? Is it possible to reduce you in-loveness gradually, without being hurt or not likeing the other person? I pick that option.
    • anything is possible.

Dogs and cats have lived together before, remember. In perfect harmony.

No mention of the squirrels. Must be a good day there in MN.

It's cold and snowy. They've got nowhere to hide. *raise eyebrow* Especially the black ones.
    • So that means you're single, SW?

That guy posting at the beginning of the summer is out of the picture?

This is dangerous stuff to announce in these parts, dear.

      ....Bethanie....
      • No. It means I'm not in love and I'm a wuss and I'm frighteningly attracted to somebody with whom I spend 7 hours a day, which is not a good reason for breaking up with somebody, and I'm not going to do anything about anything unless I know that my reasons are kosher. As in blessed by a Rabbi. Or something. Bah.
    • It's Mr. Lust, baby. But you can call me T.L. while we're in the hot tub. ;-)
  • Let the poets pipe of love in their childish way,
I know every type of love better far than they.
    If you want the thrill of love, I've been through the mill of love;
Old love, new love, every love but true love

Yeah, I been in love. I got my heart eviscerated, mascerated, and expectorated. I spent a few very lonely years casting around for someone new. Explored the concept of eschewing men altogether, in what turned out to be the ultimate avoidance of intimacy... Wasted many nights and sheet changes on gu

    • Kinda ditto story. Been crushed, have done the crushing, but now have a wife that I love... but wait! There's more (and something you forgot there, b)

      Joey.
Having a child is a wild experience. Its like just seeing someone and not even meeting them and be in complete love with them. No matter what they do wrong, you know you always will...

      </sappy>
      • Oh no, I didn't forget. That's what I meant by the "But meet him I did, and my life began. And it's pretty damn good."

You can be as sappy as you want, FK. It's good for the kids to have a positive, sensitive male role model around. :-)

        ....Bethanie....
    • ...the love that dare not speak its name...
  • A. (right up until I met my wife)

    B. (those were the college days, coupled with A.)

    C. (umm yeah like twice is right Scoob)

    D. (then I met my wife =)

    E.? nah..no poll really sucks..=) well some /. polls suck =)

  • Um. Not much else to say. Well, except that I thought A) was true once, and I had a little run-in with c) once, but that's all in the past.
  • It's hard to tell.

When your once happy-go-lucky relationship gets the shit kicked out of it by an ass-kicking disease that leaves one person in crisis and the other exhausted from the crisis, and you're both left staring at the shambles of happy, it gets a little confusing.

It's like almost finishing a puzzle and then having someone tear the whole thing up, throw the pieces around the room, and then point at you and laugh. You know what the puzzle's supposed to look like, but now there are pieces stuck

  • in chronological order. looks like this is a common trend.
  • With my wife. Absolutely, totally and completely. If you don't feel that way about your significant other, you married the wrong person.
  • This [slashdot.org] explains it all.
  • But I think most people have a "C" experience. That is how you learn what not to do.
