  • A few years ago, my favourite beer brand had its aniversary and there was a "stratch"-thingy on the back of each label. According to the symbol, one could win something. One of the symbols was a little plane. If you got one like that you had to send it to the brewery and out of the total of all sent labels a winner would be taken.

I drank quite a bit of beer back then, and I managed to get 12 labels featuring a little plane. I forgot to send in the last two, but my mom found them in time and sent them i

  • there's the time Howard Stern read my email on the radio... :)

I won 33USD once with a New York Lotto ticket.

Lynda and I won BINGO on our last cruise and we're going on the FREE CRUISE we won in March.

    I married Lynda.

  • Unless you count a bunch of "Sorry Please Try Again" caps as winning.

Oh wait - I take that back. I "won" several iTunes free songs from Pepsi. I didn't use them though (cause I don't have iTunes installed because there's no Linux client and I don't buy much music anyways). I emailed them over to insanecarbonbasedlifeform, and he used them.

I don't pay enough attention to the radio to be the right caller, I don't play the lottery, I even ignore the McDonalds's monopoly game that they trot out every few ye

  • back in the '80s where I won tickets to see Dire Straits in concert.

Sorry to disappoint, I didn't have to do anything to get them, just be the 10th caller.

It was a kick-ass show, tho. The seats were something like 5th row center.

    ^_^

    • I called a radio station accidentally once and won tickets to a B-52's concert during their commercial success. Problem was, I was 10, was into hair metal, not a bunch of "dirty hippies" from Athens. At least Ziggy Marley opening was cool.
    • While pulling security duty I won the first Harry Potter movie. Several months later while at the same job I won some Pearl Jam tickets for their benefit concert here in Seattle.

      The concert sucked.
  • I won a jar of Baskin Robbins hot fudge when I was in like the second grade.

That same year my bro won tickets to the zoo and a nice book.

  • I won a "Thomas the Tank Engine" playset one year. I was 24, my nephew was at the age to enjoy it, so he ended up with it a Christmas time. Saved me $30. That was nice.

Won bingo on occasion, and $16 from the Instant Lottery.

    Other than that nothing substantial.

I'm still waiting for my $120 million from Powerball...someday that ship will come in. (heh, yeah right.)

  • when $50 was a lot of money, i bought metroid for NES and had $20 left over whoo hoo... which i spent on junk and stuff i was a kid.

other than that i've won $100 in the minneosta state instant games as well as severl hundrad dollars in smaller prizes.. which last i checked i was +60 on the amount i put into the minneosta lotto vs the ammount i 'spent' into it. i was hooked for a while i had a system going i'd tabulate the ods on various games, look at where the games were in terms of sales from that batch,
  • I think it was last year, may have been the season before, the Norfolk Admirals [norfolkadmirals.com] had a "drop your business card in a bucket" and win a free jersey promotion every game. One night with pretty poor attendance I went and put in a card and won the free jersey. It was a low end replica jersey of our Admirals with the sponsors name across the back where the players name would of been.

Unkown to me was that this apparently entered me into a larger drawing for a package of two tickets for all the playoff games in t
  • When I was in third grade there was a city wide Fire Prevention and Safety Poster Contest. Since this involved sitting down and drawing for a few days I was happy (it's what I did through junior high anyway; I'd just polish off my work as fast as I could and spend the rest of the day drawing. It was a blast). So I drew my poster and it was submitted. I didn't think anything more about it.

Until one day I got an invite to City Hall, I went there with my mom and we found out I won. First prize: a new bik
    • Believe it or not, i won the school spelling bee in 4th grade. Made it to the states, where my stutter did me in. Big time. My family was not amused- but not enough to put me into speech therapy, so i later dealt with it on my own (and still do.)

Other things i won: i won gift certificates at work after donating to the united way. I won two dollars on a lottery ticket in a birthday card once.

Other than that, not really. I tend to enter things and not win them, or sometime i win things that i cannot possibly
      • I won my school's 6th grade geography bee and then was in line to win the 8th grade one when I was asked what what Northern-most state in the contiguous United States did the Rocky Mountains end. "Idaho," I said. The other kid said "Alaska" and won.

Which was wrong. I protested but the judges didn't care. They didn't realize that contiguous and continental are not the same.

But it was a good life lesson on the humanity: the judge implicitly was "smarter" than all the participants because he had the answe
        • I was waiting for the part of the story where you then chloroformed the judge, injected him with pain dulling meds and then slowly sawed his limbs off, moaning Idaho the entire time.

Finally, in a fit of rage, you scream ALASKA IS WRONG, MOTHER FUCKER and plunge a cordless drill into his chest cavity, hitting the juice as you do.

I mean, uh...nice story of the follies of man, Siel. :O
        • The Geography Bee was often the high point of the year for me in elementary. I won the school bee three times (not hard to do when K-8 is 100 students) and I passed the written test to go to state twice. I don't remember what got me out the second time, but the first time at state, well let's just say I don't much like the vernal equinox.

The most amusing answer in the school bee was the time a friend of mine said "pass", as in "I don't know, go to the next person". However the question happened to be somet

When I was a starving student, McDonalds were running a "Trivial pursuit" game. You collected a free scratchcard, and were given a multiple choice question to answer. If you scratched away the correct answer, you won a prize. The magnitude of the prize was related to the difficulty of the question. Of course, the general public didn't have access to a) the Internet[1], or b) a University library. We used to go down into town and collect our scratchcards, then head back up to University to look up the answer
  • When the Dallas Playboy Club opened I entered a door prize drawing they had for a stereo system. I won, at the tender young age of 18. It was a really nice system.
  • Every so often I'll walk over to one of the slotmachines on our floor, insert a dollar bill and push the button. Almost every time I win a Diet Pepsi!!1!

Sometimes it's a Dr.Pepper or Sierra Mist though, I call those days cry-days. They suck.
    • 1978: When I was around 10 or so, I came second in our regional ballroom dance competition.
    • Early-80s: I won an Alice Cooper album by dialing a radio competition.
    • Early-80s: Won a Coca-Cola radio on a TV video game show. The fact that my father knew the father of the show's presenter had nothing to do with the result.
    • Mid-80s: Won a set of R&B records from a mail-in magazine comp
    • 1985: Won a scholarship to a two-wwek summer science-school. Got to meet some interesting scientists, including Robert May (did
  • Way back in 1998, I won a top of the line Sony DVD player from a magazine competition. It had pretty good bragging rights as most people had hardly heard of them, let alone owned them.

Unfortunately, I was at university, so I couldn't afford to buy discs and nowhere was renting them yet. I think I watched about 3 films on it before someone broke into my room and stole my entire stereo.

I've also won a few little things like books, but nothing really significant.

  • Won $50 from an Indiana lottery scratch off card. That was about 20 years ago.......

  • I once won two tickets to see Sinbad perform at local casino!
  • When I was younger, I used to enter the Photography Contests for the school system.

The first time I entered, I was in 6th grade, and won the contest overall for a picture called "Snowy Hanover Homestead" in black and white.

I went back to win twice in 7th grade, once in 8th, and once again in 10th. Overall, I won counties about 10 times, state 4 times, and locally about 40 times.

Otherwise, I've only won small stuff, like free food, or iTunes, or CD's. I've been caller #8 when you needed to be caller #9 mor
  • because I win EVERY TIME! I put a dollar in and I win 4 quarters.

    *ducks and runs*

  • I won a giant stuffed bunny as a kid for making a poster about brushing...

I odn't know what happened to it though. My parents said it got put in the attic, but I never saw it up there...
