I'm not sure which is worse, that the school shooting got only cursory coverage, or the huge blowup this whole thing caused.

I'll agree that our priorities are a bit messed up but what do more calls for gun control have to do with the messed up kid at the school?
Control guns tightly? He got the weapons from his grandfather who was a police officer. (Now maybe grandpa could have locked things up better to keep them from being used on him but where do you draw the line?)

Here's mine. It's shameful that a bunch kids getting murdered before they even get to sample what life has to offer are less newsworthy than a woman who's dead in all but name.

Successfully converting a weapon to fully automatic is a lot more challenging than you'd like to think. Cycle rates need to be adjusted to avoid jams. Gas pressure for rechambering the weapon after firing is also important too. I know of one guy who tried such a conversion and it kept jamming aft

It's funny that everyone keeps bringing this up as the "conventional wisdom," because I've read the opposite argument in my local papers' op-ed columns [nydailynews.com] i.e. "if someone starved their dog to death like they're doing to poor Terri, then they would be locked up for cruelty to animals!!!11one"
