Submission + - LibreOffice Needs a Bullt-in Non-AI Adulterated Grammar Checker 1

BrendaEM writes: LibreOffice writer is a great word processor. Its menus are coherent. It suffer from suffers from less inline style-corruption than Word. Its files are lossless compressed to save on disk space--allowing you to save more often, but as download and installed, there seems to be no functioning grammar checker. I will not write for all writers, but I have no trust for anything touched by unchecked AI. I just want things like double space checking, punctuation, and that kind of thing, grammar checking before large companies lined up to steal your content. While grammar checking extensions are available, most are touched by AI, or require additional Java. So, why is no included grammar checking in LibreOffice?

Submission + - Disposable face masks used during Covid have left chemical timebomb (theguardian.com)

alternative_right writes: It has been estimated that during the height of the coronavirus pandemic 129bn disposable face masks, mostly made from polypropylene and other plastics, were being used every month around the world.

With no recycling stream, most ended up either in landfill or littered in streets, parks, beaches, waterways and rural areas, where they have now begun to degrade. Recent research has reported a significant presence of disposable face masks in both terrestrial and aquatic environments.

Subsequent chemical analysis of the leachate found medical masks also released bisphenol B, an endocrine-disrupting chemical that acts like oestrogen when absorbed into the bodies of humans and animals.

Taking into account the total amount of single-use face masks produced during the height of the pandemic, the researchers estimated they led to the release of 128-214kg of bisphenol B into the environment.

Submission + - William Shatner Hasn't Earned Any Money From Star Trek Reruns (foxnews.com)

An anonymous reader writes: William Shatner hasn't earned "a penny" from reruns of the original Star Trek.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Shatner stated "the concept of syndication only came in after 'Star Trek' was canceled when someone from the unions said: 'Wait a minute, you're replaying all those films, those shows".

There was a strike, and ultimately the unions secured residual fees after 'Star Trek' ended and Shatner didn't receive any benefit. Shatner has been outspoken about the issue and stated "Anything before 1973 (that includes Star Trek Original Series) doesn’t pay a cent in Royalties".

For me with my account since HL2 ep. 1 or something that required it, I never gave Valve my personal information like billing, home, etc. However, they got stricter in buying games with gift cards. They require real addresses for taxes, etc. Frak that. I can still get and play free games though without gift cards.
