Submission + - Pakistan lets China view US stealth technology (bbc.co.uk)

Oswald McWeany writes: Tensions between the US and Pakistan get moved up a peg after it is learned that Pakistan allowed China to examine the downed stealth helicopter. Pakistan also gifted the Chinese intelligence samples of the "stealth skin". China is a major ally and investor in Pakistan. Expect clones of US aircraft to start appearing in China (perhaps with the apple logo on them) sometime soon.

We use the DTVPal, which was a DVR/Digital set-top box that was originally put out by Echostar. Now it's a Channelmaster product, but it is a stand-alone DVR that can record OTA on one channel and do live pause on another, or record 2 channels at once.

No external connections, no subscription. Only drawback is the guide if you don't have TV Guide On-Screen service on your TV, it just pulls the generic PSIP data from the signal. But still... it's been very nice to have.

AFAIK, they are checking the Flash version contained on these boxes, which is not a "regular" version found on desktops and other devices, so changing the user-agent in the browser isn't the solution. But I've yet to find a way to spoof the flash version (without recompiling)

Researchers Make a Case For Learning Through Video Game Creation 68

ub3r n3u7r4l1st sends along this snippet from Science Daily: "Computer games have a broad appeal that transcends gender, culture, age and socio-economic status. Now, computer scientists in the US think that creating computer games, rather than just playing them, could boost students' critical and creative thinking skills as well as broaden their participation in computing. ... 'Worldwide, there is increasing recognition of a digital divide, a troubling gap between groups that use information and communication technologies widely and those that do not,' the team explains. 'The digital divide refers not only to unequal access to computing resources between groups of people but also to inequalities in their ability to use information technology fully.' There are many causes and proposed solutions to bridging this divide, but applying them at the educational and computer literacy level in an entertaining and productive way might be one of the more successful. The team adds that teaching people how to use off-the-shelf tools to quickly build a computer game might allow anyone to learn new thinking and computing skills."

Infinity Ward Fights Against Modern Warfare 2 Cheaters 203

Faithbleed writes "IW's Robert Bowling reports on his twitter account that Infinity Ward is giving 2,500 Modern Warfare 2 cheaters the boot. The news comes as the war between IW and MW2's fans rages over the decision to go with IWnet hosting instead of dedicated servers. Unhappy players were quick to come up with hacks that would allow their own servers and various other changes." Despite the dedicated-server complaints, Modern Warfare 2 has sold ridiculously well.
