Bug Opens Chrome to Easy Remote Code Execution 61

Orome1 writes "ACROS Security notified Google about a peculiar behavior of the Chrome browser that can be exploited for execution of remote code outside Chrome sandbox under specific conditions. It is another case of file planting, where an application loads a data file (as opposed to binary file, leading to binary planting) from the current working directory. Google decided that this was not a vulnerability, but rather a 'strange behavior that [they] should consider changing.' The reason they provided was that 'the social engineering level involved here is significantly higher than "Your computer is infected with a virus, download this free anti-virus software and run the exe file to fix it."'"

Interpol Wants a Global Identity Card System 349

Orome1 writes "The head of INTERPOL has emphasized the need for a globally verifiable electronic identity card (e-ID) system for migrant workers at an international forum on citizen ID projects, e-passports, and border control management. INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble said: "At a time when global migration is reaching record levels, there is a need for governments to put in place systems at the national level that would permit the identity of migrants and their documents to be verified internationally via INTERPOL." Issuing migrant workers e-ID cards in a globally verifiable format will also reduce corruption and enable cardholders to be eligible for electronic remittance schemes that will foster greater economic development and prosperity in INTERPOL member countries."

ErgoSlider Offers a New Mouse Alternative 118

Zothecula writes "First achieving widespread use with the release of the Apple Macintosh in 1984, the humble computer mouse has reigned supreme as the digital pointing device of choice for more than 20 years. During this time it has seen off countless pretenders to the throne, as well as undergoing some useful (and otherwise) redesigns such as Apple's Magic Mouse, Microsoft's Arc, the 3D-Spheric-Mouse, the AirMouse and the Orbita. The latest product to take a shot at the title is the Ergo-Slider Plus+, a device that looks like a padded wrist rest, but with a cylinder at the front that rolls and slides in a special groove to move the onscreen cursor." It reminds me of the Isopoint pointing device in the long-passed Apple-compatible Outbound Laptop.

Warner Bros. Accused of Pirating Anti-Pirating Tech 228

psycho12345 writes "German firm Medien Patent Verwaltung claims that in 2003, it revealed a new kind of anti-piracy technology to Warner Bros. that marks films with specific codes so pirated copies can be traced back to their theaters of origin. But like a great, hilariously ironic DRM Ouroborus, the company claims that Warner began using the system throughout Europe in 2004 but hasn't actually paid a dime for it."

I don't disagree with you, but sponsoring a bunch of people in research design a project, and letting a bunch of bozzos in the government oversee it are two very different things.

The government is a huge set of different people, with different priorities. And to be honest, the technical problems are a lot easier to solve than sorting out this mess.

Methane can be stored in two major ways: 1) high pressure/adsorbed on to a sponge-like material or 2) in cryogenic liquid form. Err ... no. You're confusion methane and hydrogen.

Methane is much easier to store than hydrogen. And storage facilities for methane already exist and would just need to be expanded, compared to hydrogen which requires new technology. Produced methane could be fed almost directly into the already existing and well-established natural gas distribution and storage network.

To add to the other poster's response, there really are just 3 wireless channels in the US: 1, 6, and 11. 1 actually ranges from 1 - 3, 6 ranges from 4 - 8, 11 ranges from 9 - 11.

There are about 28 wireless networks that my computer can see at the moment, all of which are consuming the airspace in one of those 3 channels. Because of this, networks will barely propogate through an entire apartment. If you need to hit two apartments, or a back porch, you need to put up more than one router, making the problem that much worse for the people around you.
