Journal Abm0raz's Journal: I AM FROM PICKSBURGH! 8

I am from Picksburg:
      - I say Pop, not Soda ( ed. note: well, actually I do say soda.)
      - It's a hoagie, not a sub or a grinder.
      - People are nebby, not nosey or annoying.
      - Groceries are transported in a buggy, not a cart.
      - A small stream is pronounced "crick" not "creek"
      - A thorny bush is called a "jaggerbush"
      - It's a sweeper, not a vacuum.
      - They're tennis shoes, not sneakers (even if you've never played tennis in your life)
      - They're gumbands, not rubber bands.
      - I don't have an accent, the rest of yinz do.
      - We have "Eat'n'Parks", not "shitty diners"
      - We live in cities, not towns
      - I live in a plan, not a neighborhood
      - I can name all 3 rivers
      - I can SPELL all 3 rivers.
      - I stay true to the Steelers (even through the Mark Malone/Bubby Brister/Kordell Stewart years)
      - Crystal toppings for cake are sprinkles, waxy, rod-shaped toppings for ice cream are jimmies.
      - If you do something unintelligent, you are a jaggov, not a dumbass.
      - I know Pittsburgh has 41 seperate bridges (doesn't count overpasses).
      - Kielbasa, pierogies, and Primanti's are the 3 greatest food earth.
      - I can name all 4 sets of major tunnels and that Denver is the only other city to have an interstate tunnel, but we have 2 :)
      - I can name both the current and former "Bridges to nowhere"
      - I have been to Cope's Cabana.

I am a Picksburgher and proud of it. Yinz can just deal with it, n'at.

  • Hells yes. I make a mean pierogie, since I can't get good ones down here. I've had pittsburgers tell me they taste good. Our division HQ is in Moon Township, so I've been to Pitt. and I really like it. If I'm up in the area again anytime soon, I'll let you know. Do you still live there?
  • I know how to pronounce Carnegie correctly (i.e. the way Andrew Carnegie pronounced it).

That a po-boy has both coleslaw and fries on it. Kielbasa, pierogies, and Primanti are pretty good too.

Three E. Orthodox churches that are now clubs. None of which are for polka.

Where the Ohio river actually caught fire.

    What a devilstrip is.

What Lake Effect is and how nothing is as bad as '78.

What Bob Serpentini does... other than sell cars.
  • Is an all night session with Bethanie, just for the record.
  • There are treatments available.
  • Hoagies are different than subs and grinders. Subs and grinders are a foot long and can be eaten with one hand.

Hoagies are two feet long, has fries on it, and requires two hands to squish the sandwich down so it'll fit in your mouth when you bite.

And don't forget the food I miss the most from the 'burgh... Steak Salads! With light cheese and extra fries!

I throughly disagree with classifying the Parkway East as an "interstate." More like "failed freshman Civil Engineering assignment." When your major road into town is more of a deathtrap than the Schuylkill Expressway in Philly, and you have 1/3 the people, you do not have an "interstate."

Help! I'm trapped in a PDP 11/70!
